Oh my gosh. My son is turning four in June. ALL BOY! Spider-man theme too. This theme is perfect for 4, 5, and 6 yr. olds. Here are some ideas I am doing for his party. We are having the party at our home. Instead of pin the tail on the donkey we are having stick the spider on the web. I drew a Spider web on a large white poster board. Cut out two inch circles with a circular punch purchased from A.C. Moore. I used 8 1/2 " by 11" sticker paper. Then I drew a spider on each 2" sticker and put a child's name on it. I already have my list so I know how many kids are possibly attending. I am going to have a Spider-Man pinata. I will be cutting a circle out of the bottom and filling it with candy but before I retape it I am attaching curling ribbon to the flap. This way the kids don't need to hit it with a bat, they can just pull the strings and release the candy. The kids are also going to be playing a bean bag toss game. I cut different sized circles out of a piece of cardboard, then I wrote points around each circle (ex. 300 pts., 400 pts. etc.). The bags were made out of fabric that I sewed and filled with beans. This game can also be purchased through Oriental Traders. You also might want to play red light, green light, duck, duck, goose; tag; or freeze dance. Freeze dance is great for kids with energy, play some music, have the kids dance around, turn off the music, any one still moving is out of the game.I am also going to have temporary tattoos and face painting for the kids, these items can also be purchased through Oriental Traders. My niece's girlfriend will also be here to twist ballons for the kids. For their party favors I am purchasing souvenir party cups from Party Pro.com. I was able to get spiders, grow in water bugs and yo-yos with spiders in them through Oriental Traders. Party Pro.com has an excellent Spider-Man selection that you might be interested in . We are having a large party because my husband and I have a large family. We are looking to have about 25 kids here , never mind all the adults. As for food, hamburgers and hotdogs, some salads, and a cake. I hope this was helpful and you have fun. Happy Birthday to your son :)

Lukas is 20 months (birthday is 31st August) and haven't thought about it yet. We have second baby due this month and then moving house next month... so have a bit much taking up my brain right now! We planned his first birthday a couple of weeks before the day (picnic in the park with close friends) and his 2nd birthday will probably be a similar kind of thing... just at a new house with new friends!

How about getting a bunch of dressing up clothes (borrow from friends as well), card, plastics etc.. and allowing them to create their own superhero and outfit at the party. Then they can run off some steam saving the world (set up come kind of challenge in the garden like an obstacle course) or hunting treasure.

It is his birthday, always remember that, not yours or his friends but his own very special day. What does he like?? special character etc. ??? Think of what he likes center your theme around that, cake, decorations dress, food etc.
As for games what is about the character he likes, invent games or copy ones from that particular show plus some of the games that he plays with his older friends, after all you do want everyone to have a fun day. Since he is hyper consider a barbecue kind of birthday with lots of room to play.
My daughter is crazy about Barney so that helps greatly in planning her birthdays.

My son is close to the same age, and my experience is that creativity is not what counts. I would suggest that you get him and all of his guest hopped up on sugar, let him open his toys in a "special spider-man costume" and then let them entertain themselves while he beats them over their heads with his new toys. Basically anything longer than two hours is going to cause you more headache than you need.
Have fun with it, he will regardless if you do or not.

I recently went to the funnest party. It was Dino themed (I'm sure you can change to whatever he's into) They dug for dino eggs, had dino pinata, little dino foam puzzles to put together, had those little individual ritz dino shape crackers, also dug for dino fossils. Kept them entertained! Hope that helps.
Oh, don't forget the dino cake!
