People that are in the hospital all the time only care about comfort...physical comfort. I suggest maybe a nice neck pillow he can rest his head on when he's tired, a warm blanket, cause its always cold in hospitals, or a book with positive quotes. Its a tough situation, but they always know your mean well.

Thats a good question. I would say maybe a comfortable throw or pillow, some candles if the hospital will allow it, maybe offer to go get them some dinner at a local restraunt or bring food yourself, but dont stay, leave the food and then come back for any dishes, A thoughtful card, offer to hire a massause to come in for them...Just some ideas...Best of Luck.

When my Dad was in the hospital, some of my friends from work cooked delicious meals, put them in containers, and brought them to my house. It was really great to be able to just microwave something when I got home from a long day at the hospital! Some other friends gave me gas cards and a Dunkin Donuts gift card as well. These were so great to have, and really helped me through a difficult time!

I don't believe Cancer units in hospitals accept flowers or roses... The best thing you can do is ask what the family needs and give them what they ask or you think they need.... For example, during this awful time someone still has to run the house and get things done.. Its gotta be hard for everyone involved to go on with their daily routine and lives but life happens and someone still needs to give rides to children, take the dog for a walk, go food shopping, water the lawn, etc.... If you can help out in their life and take some of that stress away from them so they can dedicate more time to their dying loved one, that's the best give you can give them... Giving them time to spend with their wife or mother.

Something healthy and high in calories. No really. His wife is dying, he's probably not eating much so a high calorie item would give him a little strength. I know it sounds stupid, and I don't mean too. But some nice chicken soup with lots of noodles and chicken, and some fancy crackers. Or Beef Brocoli over egg noodles. Hospital food sucks as it is.

When I had family in the hospital I bought them a nice soft blanket, make them feel more at home. Also maybe a book, not one about cancer but maybe just something uplifting. Other wise im not too sure
Good Luck

I would not only bring items for the husband, but also for the wife. Bring comfort items like maybe a CD of her favorite artist. Or bring her/his favorite food. My grandafather can no longer have salsa but everytime he goes into the hospital, i bring a little bit for him to taste. A DIGITAL voice recorder than one can uplaod the files to ther computer. A digital camera with a memory card too.

Being there to offer them food or help with their housework in this time can make a major difference. They can be caught up in the sorrow in this and not eat and take care of things at home as they would or should otherwise. Be sympathetic and try to use some light humor to help them relax is good too.

Do they have a DVD player in the room? If so, send romantic or funny movies for them to watch together. If they don't have a DVD player in the room, perhaps you can find a portable one for them to borrow.
Also--send over dinner one night----anything is better than hospital food.
In fact, send the dinner and movie on the same night---call and make sure she is having a 'good' day and give them a date night. Throw in a candle to boot!

They have gift baskets with edible items in it. Since they don't want to leave the room, they still get hungry. A care package with some toiletries so they can freshen up, get the travel sizes they are small and inexpensive.
