I am working on my family tree and would like to know where I can download a free software program that is not a trial version. Recommendations anyone?

For years I have kept thinking I should buy genealogy software. What I've used all this time is the "free tree" from ancestry.com. FIrst I used theirs to organize what I'd found, then eventually downloaded to my hard disk including their software. Lazy or whatever I've continued with the same gedcom through various computers including a lightning strike.

That's right - did you ever think what happens to your data if you have a hard disk failure? Lightning, flood, earthquake, tornado, typhoon, fire, corruption - you name it. Mine's backed up on ancestry.com's servers! I may as well consider that public, FREE tree as my primary. I download fresh every now and again.

Hey Rusty Nail,

The Family Search by LDS has the PAF software which uses GEDCOM (the standard) as the basis for it's software. The really good packages of Roots Magic and Family Treemaker are not much money, ($30.00), and provide some great search features.

Here is the site:

you are able to receive personal Ancestral document 5.2.18 from the LDS internet website on the first link decrease than. it really is been a lengthy time period in view that I used that diverse kit; i don't believe of it helps each and everything you opt to do, in spite of the indisputable fact that it will be an area to start up. in case you're waiting to spend truly ($30US) on what I evaluate to be an exceedingly good application, i ought to pass to the 2d link, and receive Roots Magic, which DOES help all of them. it really is what i exploit now, and that i *quite* like it.
