Somebody who is in an accident, say a car accident, and is paralyzed from the waist down... how long on average, are you likely to be in the hospital? Does anybody know of a website where I can get more information on this kind of paralysis, how they can get around, what they need assistance with, medical attention, etc.?

Paralysis is just that snapped spinal cord, nothing from where the break is. They keep you in Hospital to make sure you have accepted the fact, learn how to cope with being in a wheelchair for the rest of your life and other daily problems. Getting around, wheelchair and then accessible vehicles, help from a Personal Assistant although if they have the use of the upper body this might not be required. You can lead a normal life as a wheelchair user, providing the environment you live in and around is access for all, able and disabled.
