I usually paint it. If you've got everything out of the room already, it's not that much more work - just a couple of hours for an average size room. It gives the room a fresh bright appearance, too.

I agree with Les ,Iam also a painting contractor and we are working on a 6 million dollar home with 42 different colors in it,and what the designer did on this home was to have all the ceilings in each room painted the same color as the walls only 75%lighter,and we used a flat ceiling paint for the ceiling and an acrylic for the walls and everything came out great.

Personally I like a crisp white ceiling. You can, however work with colors that compliment the color of your walls. A great idea a saw in a mag was - the ceiling was painted a pale yellow cream that came down about 15 inches into the wall. The wall was painted with darker natural coffee color. It really opened up the room.
Good luck...PS If you go onto Better Homes and Gardens I do believe that you can experiment with paint colors and room styles.

I always paint the ceiling when I pain the walls. Sometimes, I like the ceiling to be white, other times, I chose the same color as the walls, as long as it's not too dense of a color. Martha Stewart likes to compliment her wall with the ceiling colors.

So much easier to paint them now and the whole room is done, it's really gonna tick you off after you've made the rest of the room look fresh and to end up with a dingy looking ceiling and then it's the ole "I should have" trip, do yourself a favor Paint It !! good luck Les the painter

It depends on how good or bad the ceiling looks to begin with. If it is passable, I would leave it alone. If not, then go ahead and paint.

Well do you think its necessary?like is there a stain or did it get dirty or it don't match the color of your walls kinda thing? If there is something wrong with it, then paint it. Although it'll be hard to do it..if its just fine then don't touch it... ^^
