Or Magic, or even Pokemon? Some people get completely wrapped up in that world. People actually gather to share their similar interest and continue the storyline. They have books and necklaces and symbols for it all. They treat people who aren't interested like they don't matter. The similarities are uncanny, really.

What do you think? Other similarities?

I cast Magic Missile!

I have a pair of 20-sided fuzzy dice hanging from my rear-view mirror. Seriously.

Very similar. Only, we know it's a game, and it doesn't pay the bills, and you don't actually get a saving roll if you stick your hand in a fire or drink poison.

Remember, Jesus saves... and takes half damage

Yes. Why do you think Christianity hates RPGs so much!
They hate competition!

For more similarities...
How about the never-ending list of rules? Everybody loves rules, right? Well, it helps to establish a hierarchy, the more you know, the more you can lord them over the new guys...

Emotionally charged imagery, or "icons of power..."

Anthropomorphic "abstracts" and animals...they all love giving human characteristics to ideas and critters...

They uphold a standard of "fair play" with consequences of forfeiture (soul or game,) to those that don't follow the rules...

Each have their own specialized "jargon" that inevitably slips into regular conversation and often, if someone drops out there in for at least a little bit of scorn for "betraying" the group....

Yeah the whole ultimate battle between good versus evil has been done quite a few times now.

It's kind of funny to think that in a rational world such as it is now, people still believe in what are essentially 2000 year old stories and myths.

Hey, DnD rules. In DnD the clerics can actually do something worth while. Lets see any party get through a dungeon crawl without a healer. Priests in religion, not so much. Ever been in a dark confined space with a Priest? Not a position I would want to be in.

Cure Serious Wounds FTW!

Yes! It's almost exactly the same!

Pokemon has dolls & figures & statues...... So do religions! Pokemon has fanatics who practically worship the characters... and so do religions.

Religion is just another form of fanatacism. The only difference is one is considered holy while the other is not.... Although, I have seen kids with those pokemon cards and they treat them like holy relics!

Dungeons and Dragons was a cartoon when I was young. It wasn't until I was about 18 that I realized that people actually played a boardgame or a cardgame or some other such rubbish. But I get your point.

Yeah, some faiths act like enclosed societies. Why don't we all take a class in the Klingon language, or Latin, or the language of the Middle Earth elves?

I do see some simalarties.

They think their group is superior to others (some times)
They have symbols that are extreamly meaningful to them
They can interpret some parts of the group in wildly different ways

Other than that they are so very different.

This is just my take on things, please dont feel offended, i sincerly appolagise if i have upset anyone, i mean no harm. I respect your beliefs and these are mine. So please leave my comments be. Message me if you have something to say.

lmao! When I think of things, I don't generally say "How does this relate to Dungeons and Dragons??" But, yeah, I see what you mean, there are definitely similarities.
