I find using oil works better in the sun and though I know you got some horror stories about the sun but its like anything else it really is in how you do it , don't abuse it and your OK , I mean if you know your burn limit is 30 minutes then don't try to go past that on that side , you cud also maybe cover the rest your body and just let the legs get sun , just be careful to make sure where the block of your upper body starts isn't to uneven or you may get a crazy tan line , on the lotion with tanner in it , I think "jergens natural glow" is a good product , it cost around 6 to 7 dollars depending on where you get it and it works well

Gradual build up tans, such as Nivea's, are great if you're after a more sun-kissed look as opposed to a deep tan. They won't get messy and are difficult to get wrong. Just apply it like you would a moisturiser all over your body. It'll get darker and darker each day/couple of days you apply it. And is fairly well priced. Wash-off stuff is great for if you just want to look tanned for an event, and are wary of patchiness. Although it has the same difficulty to apply as a normal tan, if you do do it wrong.. you can always wash it off and start again :) Boots No 7 do a good, reasonably priced one which also has some shimmer added in if you're into that kind of thing :) For proper self tan, I cannot recommend St Tropez enough. It is a little more expensive, but you can quite often find it on sale in chemists, supermarkets and department stores alike. Be sure to exfoliate beforehand. I use a mitt to apply but there are other methods. You could use your hand and just scrub really hard afterward... good luck with that though! Moisturise moisturise moisturise! Keep it looking nice and healthy. Avoid using fake tan products on your face, use the gradual build up tan stuff for your face to make it match your body colour. Get help from a friend or relative to apply fake tan if you are a little wary, and keep checking in the mirror as you apply. Have fun :)

Are you using a tanning bed or regular sunlight? When I use a tanning bed I have the same problem... I started putting more tanning lotion on my legs than usual and they finally started holding a good tan. When I'm in the regular sun, if I can I try to sit in the shade and leave my legs out in the light. Also, get some of the lotion that tones your skin... use it only on your legs if you want them darker/bronzier, then start using it on the rest of your body once you get results that you like. Hope this helps.

I would use a lotion with a bronzer in it on your legs to help even out the color. My legs are the same way. However, I don't tan anymore...started getting sunspots! So now I just do the Mystic Tan!

If you are tanning in a tanning bed i would use a lotion with bronzer and hemp. Legs are extremely hard to tan. I am the same way they always tan last on me.

I am the exact same way. if there is a pool around you dip in untill youget your legs wet and then lay back down, or use tanning oil, not sunscreen, on just your legs that should help

Use fake tan, either go to a salon or do it yourself, its so much easier than getting a real tan.

The best answer is DON'T tan. Excessive exposure to sun causes skin cancer and speeds the aging process. By the time you are 40, if you don't have skin cancer, you will look 10 years older.
