Because it is a catch-all answer for why bad things, like earthquakes and tsunami happen.

Q: Father, why did God just kill 100,000 people in a natural disaster?

A: God moves in mysterious ways my son.

Because it's true. He does move in mysterious ways. I really don't understand why he does the things he does. There are many times I am completely puzzled, but no matter how bad something appears to be, I know God has a bigger plan in mind. He sees things in a bigger picture than we do. It's not up to us to understand why he does things the way he does, all we have to do is believe and trust that he is doing what is best for all of us.

People often think that what happens in life -- and in the world in general -- is the result of God's Will, and that he makes things happen in order to bring about specific outcomes.
Based on this, when people look at a particular situation, and notice the degree to which apparently coincidental actions have combined together to bring that situation about, they think God has acted.

Since it appears that the outcome is not something that could have been forseen, or is somehow unusual or unexpected, they say it's "mysterious ways." They say "God works" or "God moves" in regard to the unfolding of circumstances which lead to the outcome, which they believe to be the action of God on the world.

Probably because "many" (dubious classification, Reverend... right up there with "everybody," "them," and the world famous "...I read somewhere that...") have no f-cking idea what they're talking about. It's a p-ss poor excuse for passing off the garbage and travesties that happen to people when you ask them why this questionable "god" didn't intervene.

The one and only time I ever struck a man of the cloth was when a lutheran dingbat made the mistake of trying to convince me that my fiance's suicide was "god" testing MY faith!!! If that's the kind of "test" (i.e. snuffing the innocent to prove a point to a third-party) that some arbitrary "god" is going to foist upon people, I'd rather go to hell and become vice-satan... if I don't stage a coup d'etat and take over!! Ave Satanas!!!!

It is the only way a Christian can justify both the existence of God and his/her total disregard for the human race.

Example: A two week old child is killed by its mother. There is no logical way to address that. Therefore God "MUST" work in mysterious ways because if s/he worked in any rational fashion things like that would not occur.

The greater mystorious is hidden from the ages. No one know, see or understand it. now, he reveal to us through the new testement, it is
God took two steps. Fist, He became flesh, born as a man called Jesus. After living a perfect and sinless life and dying on the cross to redeem sinful man, He rose from the dead and in resurrection changed His form from the flesh to the Spirit. Hence, the Lord Jesus became the Spirit. This spirit is called the life giving spirit. A crucial verse in the bible tell us that the last Adam (Christ ) became a life-giving Spirit(1Cor 15:45) god the Father is unapproachable. Although He came in the Son to dwell as man among men, God the Son was still not able to enter into man because he was in the form of a man with flesh and blood. By the Son’s death and resurrection, his form was changed from a physical one into a spiritual one. As the Spirit, that is, as the spiritual air that we can breathe in, Christ was able to enter into His disciples. Thus the entire Triune God- the Father, The son, and the spirit reaches man. In other word, when the Triune God reaches his Redeemed people, He is the Spirit.

well I can only answer that out of my own experiences.

There were times, when what I thought were right, and I prayed to God about it, and only to find out that I was wrong, and that they way it worked out was exactly right, However during that time, I questioned God's Motives, Only to find out, That he didn't let me down, he just does things mysteriously, and just because during the time of pray it didn't seem right too me, It always ended up being exactly right...

so he moves in mysterious way's..to us...To him...It's just right.

b-cuz those who say this, lack understanding.
So, to explain it away, they say "God works in mysterious ways"...INSTEAD of digging deeper into the truth, and get a satisfying answer.
And, according to Scripture; they do not have the spirit/ blessing of God.
Also, in the Scriptures, that God reveals to His servants here on earth, the ability to sound a warning, before He executes judgement. i.e. as in Noah's day. Jeremiah, Daniel and more.
So, without His Blessing, you won't have a full understanding.

The first thing that comes to mind is if you pray for something that He doesn't think will be in your best interest He will make a way for you to realize this and lead you in a different direction.
The second is that He still does miracles today.
If you pray and need something desperately be still and pay attention to how He makes things happen by using other people.
