My husband is in the Army, and we are PCS'ing to Okinawa, Japan (Kadena AFB) in September. This is our first overseas move, so this is all new to us. I've received information from the Army about the culture, and what to expect, etc. But if anyone has ever lived there, I'd love to get some input. Tell me what it's REALLY like, and any advice you can give me (pre-move, housing, etc). I'm very excited about it, but I'd like to be as prepared as possible. I would really appreciate any input. Thanks a lot!

Note: I've done a lot of research on the internet, as well as travel guides and pamphlets from the Army. I really want to hear from people who have been there. Thanks!

I hosted a Japanese teaching intern a few years ago. She had been to Okinawa before, and I recall her telling me it was beautiful... that it was very unlike the main part of Japan, and that it was very much like America's Hawai'i.
