No. It is not expected or encouraged. They cannot take it if you tell them to give you better care in return for a gift.
They probably are not allowed to take cash from patients as a general rule.
In the Labor and Delivery area, it is probably more common to give a little thank you gift to the nurse(s) since it is generally a happy time and you will spend a few days there and get to know some of the staff. It may be more common, but again, it is not expected or encouraged.

no. It is not common to tip hospital staff with money. You can offer them flowers or a fruit basket or a gift like that if you were very impressed with their service as a whole. If you were taken by one person in particular, you may want to write a recomendation to their supervisor for a job well done. If it is a managed care facility (nursing home, hospice, etc) where they maintain care for an extended period of time, then a donation to the center once a year is sufficient.

As a nurse,we are not permitted to take a tip or a monetary gift from a patient or their family. We could lose our job if we did.
A nice thank you note to the staff or even a box of candy for all to share is a nice idea and is appreciated. When my parents were in the hospital,I always bought the nurses a box of candy as a small gesture of thanks.
We get paid to do our job,so no tipping is warranted. We give the best care we can to everyone.

It is not common to tip hospital staff in the U.S. They are not waiters or cab drivers. They are professional people. It would probably be an insult.
It will not hurt though if you were to get flowers or a big plate of cookies (or something like that) to give them to show your appreciation.

Sometimes you can leave tips for hospital staff if it's your preference to do so. It's your decision how much.

No one tips hospital staff. Your sincere thank you words will be enough.
