If you are doing it yourself, patterns may be difficult to match and take more wallpaper. Textured may have to be matched too, depends on the type of texture.
Be sure to treat the wall underneath in case you change your mind someday and want the paper down. The glue directly on sheet rock can tear the top coat of paper off and cause repair expense if you decide to remove the wallpaper at a later time.

Plain and simple.... Even if you plan on living in your house for the remainder of your life you should always take into consideration "resale" value. Not all home buyers will like the same wallpaper pattern as you, but a higher percentage will be agreeable with a solid colored textured wall!

If you're going to put up wallpaper, put up patterned wallpaper. If you are going for plain or textured, it is better to use paint.
I prefer to stick to a plain textured paint.
Patterns tend to go out of date easily. A simple textured paint rarely goes out of style and it can cover up flaws in the spackling or wall.

Neither! There are so many great paint colors out there that can transform a room so beautifully without the tedious task of putting up wall paper. I thought about wall paper for my own home, but I realized it is such a headache and if you end up not liking it, it's a pain to strip down! Besides, there are so many interesting painting techniques (stencil, sponge, crackle) that can be just as dramatic and far more beautiful than wall paper. Plus, the best thing is you can paint over it when you want to change up! Hope this helps.

Well, if I wanted plain, I'd save money and trouble and just paint the walls. So, if wallpaper, then I would DEFINITELY go for patterned.
Textured... I dunno, I think textured belongs in the restroom.
There are, however, some really cool painting techniques, in which you can creat a neat textured look.
Hang on and I'll see if I can find you a link or two...
Painting techniques:
Suede look: http://www.muralsplus.com/suedefin.htm
More suede look: http://rlhome.polo.com/rlhome/prod_pdf/Suede_Instructions.pdf
Custom Faux Techniques-- these are really cool-- http://www.truevaluepaint.com/Content/projects/ContentView.aspx?con_id=7900 This one has pics... and clicking on a pic brings up the "how -to."
Good luck!!

Wallpaper is not what I would use in my home! I prefer the elegance of painted walls, as wallpaper is (in my humble opinion) very tacky.
If I had no choice but to use wallpaper, I would use very plain, thin wallpaper, so that it looked like painted walls. This will allow you to accessorise your home without it all clashing with a pattern on your walls.
All the best.

I'm in the middle of decorating my house and I'm going for plain all the way,its easier to add interest with pictures on the walls than ending up with a patterned paper that you might go off in a couple of months.

plain. If it is an option I would actually paint. Paper makes it impossible to change the look of the walls when you want a make over. Nowadays you can find event textured paint.

Personally, I'd choose NEITHER...because I've had to take wallpaper off before, and I wouldn't subject ANYONE to that mess.
However, given your choices mean that you're going to put one of them on no matter what, I'd choose plain. It'll be easier to match to whatever, and easier to cover when you sell your house one day and the people who move in hate wallpaper.

If you must go with paper (I recommended paint), at least choose plain. The patterned kind gets old in a hurry, and a small or vertical pattern makes the room seem smaller.
