It was probably the P-40 Warhawk. The sharktooth design was used by the American Volunteer Group (AVG), also known as the Flying Tigers, under Claire Chennault - they flew as mercenaries for General Chiang Kai Sheck (poor spelling, I know) against the Japanese before the US got into WWII.

Many military aircraft flew with the Sharksmouth. The British started it by painting the sharksmouth on their P-40's they used in North Africa in early 1941. The American Volunteer Group in China copied the practice. Almost every type of WWII fighter and a few bombers had an example of someone flying with a sharksmouth.
After WWII, you could find it on some F-86's flying in Korea, F-105's, F8's and F-4's in Vietnam. Even a few B-52's and RB-66's had it.
More recently, there was a squadron of A-10's that carried the sharksmouth, as well as a regiment of AH1 Cobra attack helicopters.

Above may be correct. I was thinking of a P-51 Mustang.
