Lucifer, later known as "Satan the Devil", was a high ranking angel in "Eden" before he became an opositor to God's sovereignty.
Ezekiel 28:13-14 (KJV)
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou art the anointed "cherub" that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.”
---IN the bible "cherub" is only used in references to angels. We can see from the above text that God had entrusted this angel with great responsibilities from the beginning.
The bible states that this Angel was blameless.
Ezekiel 28:15 "You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created Until unrighteousness was found in you."
---So like Adam and Eve, the angels were created perfect... and with a free will.
This scripture is clearly not talking about a King of Babylon like some say in the above posts.
Isaiah 14:12: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Revelation 12:12: "Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, with great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time."
In Revelation 12:7-9 we read that Satan the Dragon declared war on God, Satan was expelled from heaven Isaiah as in 14:12.
Jehovah God must have had created Lucifer with great power and beauty. He was an anointed Cherub and must have had a major responsibility in God's plans.
Lucifer became prideful and greedy and he did not want to worship anybody. He wanted to be like the "most high". This kind of attitude is not rare in us humans neither. I think arrogance, ego and pride turned Lucifer evil. Satan even told Eve that she could be like God if she ate from the tree of life.

The Lucifer, who was the King of Babylon, did not do this.
Now what do I mean? This is what I mean. That name was only ascribed to the King of Babylon in Isaiah 14. Read the whole proverb beginning with verse 1. Then go back to verse 4 and read through verse 12. That verse, verse 12 specifically tells us the who God is talking of by name and who he is. It is referring to when God took the kings kingdom away temporarily. Read Daniel chapter 4, the king testifies as to this concerning Isaiah 14.
The devil, was never in heaven, for heaven is a holy place, filled with glory and with grace, sin can never enter there. Jesus, in John 8:44, tells us that the devil was a murder from the beginning. Genesis 1:1 and John 1:3, tells us God created everything and that Jesus was the creator of all things; John 1:1-3. The apostle John in 1st John 3:8 tells us that the devil sinneth from the beginning.
NOTHING
existed before the beginning, so I ask you, how could the devil have ever been in heaven as a holy angel, in spite of the scriptures others gave?

Some have theorized that God revealed to him his divine plan that would include God going down to earth, becoming man, dying for man's sins and ascending into heaven. Pride entered the heart of Satan possible because he could not stand the thought of having to worship a sub-lifeform and thus he and a third of the angels fell and became scum sucking demons of hell!
Angels are not like humans, they have the ability to see the full consequences of their decisions. Once an angel falls, he falls for good.

As far as Lucifer and his 'rebellion', a good place to start is the 14th Chapter of Isaiah. While there are many good reference verses in this chapter about Lucifer, I believe that verses 13-15 specifically address your question.
Now, if you REALLY want to know about things that you NEVER have read anywhere about this entity and what he and what he did was REALLY all about, then you are invited to read the following two articles:

Satan rebelled because of pride.
Scriptures describe him as among the most beautiful of the angels, and with beautiful voice to match.
