Most over the air chanels put a HD logo on the bottom right corner of the screen from time to time. You should also be able to tell by the clarity of the picture. If you don't have an HDTV TV it doesn't matter. You didn't mention if you have an HDTV or if you have satelite tv or cable. Another way to tell is when a commercial comes on does the screen shrink on the sides then widen again when the program comes back on.

Most TVs have now an Info (or Display) button on the remote.
Hit Info, if it says your resolution is 720p or 1080i (or 1080p) then you receive an HD signal.
