santa fe has come a long way, with an awesomely smooth ride and powertrain. third row is tight, if thats important to you, try the suzuki because that too is an improvement over the last one.
personally id go with the santa fe, although the new xl7 isnt too bad anymore.

Either the Santa Fe or the new Veracruz. I drove all of these smaller SUV's Lexus, BMWX5, Acura MDX, Rav4, Subaru Tribeca, Highlander, Pilot, Envoy, Equinox even more I think.
fyi, the suzuki is just a GM car rebadged, I can't remember which chassis it is.
They Hyundai's were the best for the money and the drive. I purchased a relatively loaded Veracruz which actually had a nicer ride than the higher end competitors and I keep getting questions like "Is this the new X5?" and "Is that the new Mercedes SUV?"
I had owned BMW's for over 20 years and am very happy with the power/ride/etc of my new Hyundai.
BMW is now having quality issues, I will probably never buy another one.
Hope this helps

I don't know anything about the XL7, but the Santa Fe is really nice. You should also check out the Toyota Rav-4, the new Rav-4's are really nice and very competitive with the Hyundai I think. It would be difficult choosing between the Rav-4 and Santa Fe, you better test drive both!

If I had been asked this question 6 months ago I would have told you GO HYUNDAI!! I purchased a 2004 Santa Fe brand new in early '04 and just loved it. Sure it had a few things that were not quite right but I could live with them. When the '07's were offered my sales rep called me from the dealership and wanted my '04 and made me a hell of a deal on trade towards an '07. I was sold and ordered the one I wanted with the features I wanted. Well of course there wasn't one like that out in the inventory any where so I was going to get it made at the factory. Three months later it arrived. When the salesman opened the door, I said this isn't right, I ordered the tan interior. Well it seems that the tan interior had been revised to beige and a very light beige at that! With that was the top panels on the doors and the dashboard were black, what? Who ever heard of a 3 tone interior? Black and Beige with a wood grained accent panel!
The next thing was the stereo, it seems that Hyundai has hooked up with XM radio to promote that service. I had expected the same quality system in the new one, as was in the old. WRONG! By adding that XM feature they dropped the 6 disk changer and the quality of the sound is similar to the 1966 Dodge Dart I had back in high school!
By now some of you are thinking "buyer's remorse", you're probably right to a point. But, I have a challenge to prove my point that the 2007 Santa Fe sucks air. The challenge is for anyone who wants to try the new Santa Fe, drive one down the road (above 45mph) and roll the back windows down(even half way) and drive longer than 10 minutes. The new look of the Santa Fe (aerodynamic) has created a monster, the air pressure created by this little thing will nearly blow your eardrums out! Even by lowering the front windows or cracking the sunroof it doesn't help! So what? Well that little problem leads to the next which is this vehicle is hard to handle when you have any winds blowing strongly too. Last week we had winds that ran about 35 to 40mph out of the northwest (I was traveling west). When I got done with a two hour drive my arms felt like I had been riding my motorcycle. The constant correcting as I passed other vehicles and wind breaks was amazing (I was driving at 65mph the entire time). On top of that, I am now getting 19mpg on the road, compared to the 26mpg before.
I brought these problems to the attention of the dealer and I got the old we'll go to bat for you with Hyundai. I'm still hopeful I will have some resolve (dealership has good people). I filled out a satisfaction survey from Hyundai listing the problems, they called my salesperson and reamed him out (what he told me). When I told him that they (Hyundai) had not even contacted me he still stuck up for them and told me they were a great company and they were concerned about their customers. Well, that's what brings me to this little tirade. I just got off the phone with "Quinn", a supervisor with the customer support group at Hyundai. I couldn't even explain my points with out him interrupting me and when I told him that he was unprofessional for his constant interruptions, I got the silent treatment. I'd ask a question and all I got was silence.
Well I have gone from a great fan of the Hyundai Santa Fe (three friends have purchased Hyundai's) to a ever increasing critic. I'm still trying to be optimistic, the new owner of the dealership is going to bat for me and see if something can't be done. After dealing with "Quinn" I have serious reservations, maybe you will have better luck than I. Just keep your eyes open, demand to see everything before buying, and if you order it, don't assume that you will get what you ordered.

I'd go Santa Fe all the way. They're great looking and they're more reliable than the Suzuki. AND the biggest 2 factors are that 1. They've got a GREAT warranty, and 2. They're better priced.

You can't beat Hyundai' warranty. That should tell you right there that they are confident about their product. Not to mention they just changed the body style of the Sante Fe it looks really nice
