the mother should stop the drug the moment she knows she is pregnant. This will probably not have a negative effect on the baby. It's doubtful the baby would have withdrawls, if the mother stops the drug immediately. Also the mother should not use any drugs if she is breastfeeding the baby.

Babies that are born addicted to drugs is because the mothers do not stop using during their pregnancy.

I hope this helps your report.

Any medicine taken while pregnant could affect the baby. Possibly in some very bad ways.

This question sounds like maybe the mother needs the percocets but wants to stop taking them for a period before the baby is born so as not to cause problems to the baby.

Everyone is different, including embryos. If the mother is taking the pills while she is pregnant there isn't much of an easy way to find out if it is affecting the baby until the baby is born. Therefore: if it takes 2 weeks for the effects of the drug to leave the mother's body, it's too late, it has affected the baby.

If it's too late for that and the mother just doesn't want the baby going thru withdrawals, then it would take as long as it takes to get it out of the mother's system.

LOL The more I read my answer, the more I think it doesn't answer your question but here it is for what it is worth.

Medically speaking, the mother should not have taken any medication even before she is pregnant and also if she were trying to become pregnant she should consider not taking percocets at all. She would try to discuss this with a ob gyn or her primary care doctor. If she is not wanting to go to the doctors because of the expense, she could go to the free clinic. This is for any type of medications. If you are doing a report on newborn withadrawal, there is a various abundance of information on line and if she feels confident, she may even go to a family planning clinic, they would have even more information. I hope this has helped. I am not trying to be judgemental . but a withdrawal for an adult is painful enough, try watching a baby that cannot communicate its pain other than crying and is unconsolable.

This drug combination is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will harm an unborn baby.

percocets are often perscribe to pregnant women along with tylenol 3
