Great places that would fit exactly what you are looking for are local museums or galleries. Very artsy and fun yet elegant. There are also great vintage buildings in most cities that do weddings. Check theknot.com for your local ceremony/reception sites and stay away from anything with the word chapel in it.

There are many places in which to wed. Some are, home, garden, winery, beach, Art gallery, hotel, even the venue where you intend to hold the reception. And just because you aren't 'religious' doesn't meant a minister can't marry you. Most of us understand. Your officiant should be able to help you create a civil ceremony that is both meaningful and a wonderful memory for you. Give one of us a shot.
To find an officiant type into Yahoo your city, state & wedding officiant (no 's' on the end) You will have a few to choose from, usually on the 2nd page. The larger bridal sites seem to get top billing. If you do go to the bridal sites, please visit the site of someone you think you might like. Those bridal sites make vendors & officiants pay for your contact info so you may not hear back from someone you'd hoped.

You could always do an outdoor ceremony in a garden/park. Or you can check around where you live for banquet halls and golf courses. Look at theknot.com and you can find tons of local places that are in between the courthouse and a church that are very classy. Good luck!

Yes, but it really depends upon where you live and when you're getting married.
There are a lot of BEAUTIFUL hotels where you can get married. And think of out-of-the-way, interesting locations, too. My fiance and I are scouting the history center, the science museum, one or two ballrooms, art museums, and even music venues/theaters for our ceremony and reception. There are also mansions that are pretty much dedicated to weddings nearby, as well as the usual golf course/country clubs and outdoor venues.
have your fiance go to a bridal show -- there are always interesting wedding venues represented there. Or just google "[your city] wedding venue" and see what pops up.

maybe the place you would have your reception has a beautiful courtyard, or room seperate to the reception room that you can decorate as well, if you live near an ocean the beach is always a big hit, sometimes you can coordinate your wedding date to line up with an awesome exhibit at a museam, like a space exhibit with all of those sparkling stars and your flowers would be beautiful, or something like that. Be creative, the less it falls into the traditional mold, the more memorable it will be for you and your guests. maybe even an art exhibit?

My husband and I were the same way. We got married outside under a tree! We had a some-what traditional wedding. I wore a purple prom dress like and he wore black pants, white shoes, a purple tie, and a white shirt. It was KOUNTRYFIED! But it was still nice. I still got to quote 'walk down the aisle' we played some kind of cd that my father in law had and it was piano music. But we said our vows and done the ring exchange and all.

If you both like the beach, get married on the beach! That's what my fiance and I are doing for our wedding.
There is also a park, someone's (parents? yours?) house, a fire hall, a community center, a hotel conference room... etc.
