It's the season for sidewalk chalk. Draw out a whole train station or a raceway. You can also bike, paint, read, go to the zoo, park, play ball, go to a game.

Simple, active songs, like "Itsy Bitsy Spider," ""The Lord's Army" (if you're not opposed to Christian songs), "Skinnamarinky Dinky Dink", "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", "I'm Being Eaten by a Tyranasaurus Rex", "Little Bunny Foo-Foo" and "The Hokey Pokey"

Color. Don't just color pictures of cars or objects. Color pictures of a letter with an item ("A" and a picture of an apple, "B" and a picture of a book). Find pictures that have several of one or two objects, and count the objects (a coloring page of a farm, count the birds, count the pigs, count the butterflies, etc.) Any paper activity is usually fun for a three-year-old, as long as it's age appropriate. My three year old is VERY protective of his "papers".

Read to him and don't be afraid to sacrifice the story. Talk about the pictures, and the letters. Ask him random questions about what you're reading ("Why do you think he doesn't want the green eggs and ham?" "Do you like green eggs and ham?")

Three-year-olds need activity and fresh air, so take him for a walk, to the park, play tag, maybe get swimming lessons or take him swimming this summer.

They can also help some around the house, and usually actually enjoy doing it at that age. Let him help you sweep the floor, wipe down the table or counter, pick up his toys, put his clothes in his dresser (yeah, they won't be folded, but how long do they actually stay folded anyway???) Give him a microfiber cloth and let him clean the windows (without the cleaning solution... if he wants some, give him a spray bottle with water and let him go to town).

Hope this sparked some ideas for you!

Lot's, the list is endless.
* If the weathers nice you could give him a bucket of water and a thick paint brush. He could 'paint' the outside of the house. Sounds daft but I've done this with children I look after and they loved it-even better it dries and leaves no marks.
* Paving chalk. He can then make picture on the pavement.
* Go to your local park- kick a ball around, ride a bike, feed the ducks etc
* Have a picnic in your park/garden
* Make models with play dough
* Paint pictures
* Bake cakes
* Read books, do puzzles, draw pictures
* Role play
* Invite a few of his friends and their Moms/Dads and go to the zoo, farm or another outing or even just a get together at your house. That way you'd have company as well as your son.

READ!! fun books, take him to the library, outdoor activities, play in the dirt, museum, the beach,... this is the most critical time of their lives so educational activities are very important, so whatever you do, dont turn on the television, youll be proud when he's graduating from h.s as the Salutadictorian, b/c of you!!

aww I have a three year old too. and two boys. here are some great activities to do
At Home:
Get a Blow up ball and play catch.. He will have fun learning to use those little muscles. Be careful he will most likely want to kick it so make sure it is a safe area incase he falls down.
Bubbles: These are sooo much fun for them to. You will have to blow them too. Make sure again it is in safe spill area so he doesn't slip. Also great for the park.
FINGER PAINT.. with brushes or fingers.. Great gooiest fun and it helps with the textures he can feel. Be sure to put paper down in case of spills.
WHIP CREAM ART. keke.. just in case he wants to eat it they still put things in the mouth. Just let him squuuuuuuish it and stuff fun but very very messy.
PLAY DOE is great too. He will love to squish stomp and mix the colors. You have to show him how to play with it. But at three he will love to squish poke it so get him some safe play doe tools and expand on them as he gets older,.
Water play,, in a little waiting pool. again art on the ground
CHALK with summer coming make sure he wears sandals . They love to draw.
Coloring on blank paper. Coloring books are fun but for older children. some get frustrated with them. But he may like it
PLAYING CHILDREN MUSIC ( I play music while my little one plays too) but this gives him time to do some silly dance keke and adorable.
Get some child safe musical toys. They love whistles make sure they are the big whistles. Drums you can make them or buy them. Make some shakers out of a two leader bottle place beans inside and the common rice seal the top.. great shaking fun.
Go to the local packing store and grab him some boxes.. they love love boxes to hide in and crawl threw. keke love it.
So much to do.. I have lots more fun stuff but this is a great start.
Big Wheel is great fun too.. low to the ground.
Dress up time
REMEMBER TO USE SUN SCREEN THIS SUMMER..
Go to a park and chase him around. Join a local mothers group so he can meet some play mates.. LOVE little ones..

sorry my spell check was not working...

My son is 5 and he loves to run, jump, kick, and just be a boy. So take him somewhere that he can be himself..Like a park. my son loves it.or the beach even if it is chilly.Bc you could fly a kite in teh wind, you could run through sand, or you could just walk and talk..take him to teh beach to ride his bike..or just take him for a walk..boys love being with their mom and they love doing anything that makes us happy..I sometimes just walk around teh block 3 times..boys get energy from somewhere that normal people dont have...so really whatever he wnats to do..my son in infatuated with the fact that he can take 5.00 dollars in a store and get 5 COOL things so he loves the Dollar Tree..and so do i...thats it really..with boys its easier bc they will do anything really that allows them to cut up and have a wonderful time...

I have a 3yr old little girl and 2 older boys....I have found that at 3 they really like it when you just act goofy, I am a pretty goofy mom I guess...But My kids love me.just let the kid inside you out.Relate to your son and talk to him like he is a little adult. This realy helps with talking and communication skills. And it is time to get them use to talking to you about everything!!
