Some people said that P2P music downloading illegal so I am asking if it is true.

Yes, of course it is true, but that does not seem to be hindering the practice in the least. However, if the RIAA should discover that you downloaded copyrighted materials from a P2P site, they will contact you and possibly bring litigation against you.

The courts have held that the RIAA has every right to recapture lost revenues and penalties against those who are found to have downloaded copyrighted materials.

The tool or the technology is legal.

The problem is 99% of the content on P2P is illegal i.e. violates copyright.

If you download through napster / itunes / legit P2P its legal. If you download through kazaa, limewire, e donkey / emule etc and dont pay for it, its highly illegal
