I am moving to Oregon because of the atmosphere. In California everything and everyone is so fast paced, plastic, franchised, shallow, close minded, angry, rude, impatient, superficial, etc. There is so much culture in California I must admit, yet it is lost on suburbia, tract housing, endless golf coarses, and SPRAWL! Fresno is 10 times as long as Portland yet more people live in Portland! Culture, small time living, life, friends, slowing down to actually breathe, local art and economy, family, the human race, are all embraced in Oregon. The environment is terrible in LA and Fresno. Our valleys are covered with a thick layer of brown smog everyday. No trees, more cars, and mini-malls! Portland is a city hidden in the trees and there are more thrift shops than Starbucks'! There is one on every corner here in Fresno! One can jump on the MAX line or a bus and save the environment. NO SMOG! There are beautiful parts to California, yet the sun.....THE SUN! ALL THE TIME THE SUN! I am a lobster by Christmas. Give me the rain, the wind, the clouds, the snow, the ice; it's my utopia! I was just not meant to live here in California. Some love it and I believe that it will always be my home in my heart.....maybe not.....but I will remember it with not so fond memories and thank god everyday I am in OREGON! :)

because the people here aren't as snobbish as californians who battle themselves over the difference between northern and southern california.

because the air is cleaner and sweeter

because oregon is less poluted than california

because our beaches are still public, unlike a majority of the california coast

because oregon actually offers more things to do and secret treasures than even native oregonians find to be astonishing

because once poeple realize that the on ly thing that makes california sunset pretty is the fact that the color is made from the reflection of so much smog

because when I flly I don't see that noticable line that divides the brown air and blue sky as the plane takes off.

Many Californians are moving because it is less crowded and less polluted in Oregon. Oregon is not as expensive in terms of real estate. Oregon is also a nice place to live

Because besides being outrageous in housing prices,
Crime has risen way too much in California, particularly
Los Angeles. It is rediculous to pay sky high rents, and
then worry about shootings on the freeways, while on your
way to work. The weather does not outweigh the horrid
rents and home prices, nor the rude, inpatient drivers that
are on the streets everyday.

Because of the crime, pollution and Illegal Aliens. Its not the High Taxes in California because thanks to the Democrats and the Lesbian Mafia - Oregon also has High Taxes along with Washington - The LEFT Coast. But don't worry because the Cali migration to Oregon is bringing in Illegal Aliens and Crime - Enjoy!

people move to Oregon for several reasons.

The cost of living is cheaper, cleaner air, no sales tax, cleaner air, people are more friendly, cleaner air, more trees and wide open spaces.

It is much cheaper to live in Oregon because rent is about half of what it would cost in California. In Oregon you can rent a 3 bedroom house with a fenced yard and a garage for $850 to $950, depending on where you decide to live.

There is no such thing as sales tax in Oregon, which can be a very big incentive to move from any state that does have it.

When you go to the grocery store to buy food, or other household items, the price on the item is the final price. You will never enconter soemone asking you to pay sales tax.
It's the same where ever you go, what ever you buy.

You are more likely to encounter friendly people who will talk to you with out looking at you sides ways like your a freak for saying "hello". People in Oregon tend to be more friendly and outgoing. they are less pretentious or stuck up. I think it has something to do with the following:

Oregon is known for it's clean air and wide open spaces. There are more trees and grass, more parks, less people and less cement jungle, however, now that the Californians are moving in, I'm sure we will see more cement jungle since they seem to like that sort of thing and prefer to tear up beautiful places than to leave it be.

You will also notice that the sidewalks have a patch of grass down the outside with a line of trees.

The streets are straighter and you can actually get from one side of Springfield to the other side of Eugene in less than 30 minutes.

You can get from Eugene to Albany in 45 minutes, to Salem in just over an hour, to Portland in three, and to Roseburg in 45 minutes. You can also get to the coast in less time. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to get to Ashland from Eugene, and it takes about 4 1/2 hours to get to the California border.

The reason it takes such little time is because the streets and highways are straighter and there is less cars and people in Oregon.

These are just a few examples why someone would move from Alienville to a more enlightened place like Oregon.

Addendum:

I forgot to mention that, like someone else said, Oregon is full of hidden treasures. Where else can you go camping in the deep woods, hiking on the mountains, see exotic animals in a rain forest or go swimming in a beautiful ocean or lake?

When you get to Oregon, you really should visit the coast. Newport is a great place to start. It is a small seaside town with lots of museums, restaraunts, and eclectic old stores.

You really should see Eugene/ Springfield area for it's eclectic mix of people and well, did I mention that it's legal for a woman to walk around downtown Eugene with her top off?!?! Also, there is an Italian restaruant off of Church Street (????) that you really need to eat at!! AWESOME food!! EXCELLENT SERVICE!!

You should also go camping off of hwy 20 where you will get lost in the deep woods and can run around buck naked and not have to worry about anyone seeing you. (been there, done that)

Although Salem has become a bit crowded,it is still a site to see. The last time I lived there, about 18 years ago, you could hang out on the lawn of the capitol building. The downtown area has alot of interesting places to visit, many eclectic stores.

Albany is rather poor and has the paper mill, which on any given day will smell something like old dirty diapers to rotting flesh. (fair warning). You do get used to it, though. There really isn't anything there to see, however, it is a great place to raise kids. It just "feels" like home!

Lincoln City is also on the coast and is worth seeing as well. the beach is an amazing site. It is very small and people are very friendly.

One of the smaller towns would be Boardman, which if you blink, you'll miss it. They have 1 restaraunt, two bars, a grocery store and a gas station. It's over by...... ummm...... thinking.... OH YEA!!! The Dalles, which is an AWESOME site!!! My God, the mountains are breathtaking!!

The Ashland area is where all the rich snobs live, so beware if you don't fit into that crowd. They are VERY stuck up!! However, it is a beautiful small town.

Roseburg kinda reminded me of Albany, however, it's a bit cleaner.

Another thing I should mention is that it rains about 9 months out of the year, which makes the air soooooo clean and fresh all the time. At first it will be depressing. It took me 5 years to get used to it!! , but when I did, I just couldn't pull myself away. Now I LOVE the rain and miss Oregon. Can you tell?! LOL!
