the knowledrge that I am not deluding myself with religeon.Only 18% of the world are christian and of that figure 60% are roman catholics.
The rest is made up from all the other religeons but they include all non practising people,for example my parents had me babtised as a child but I do not believe but an included as a christian.following that line of thought the acyual christians of the world make up about 10% of all peoples.or some 600.000.000 people.
I get a lot from life and all the things it has to offer without having to believe in a higher being.
Believers cant understand non believers and vice versa.

Well, honesty, for one thing. As a Taoist I believe in something greater than a deity could ever be, and less well defined. To me, deities are symbols, metaphors, and archetypes, which I may refer to in a symbolic sense but that I am unable to believe are actually real beings.
Taoism has a lot of wisdom in it and is a good description of what I believed in my heart before I ever read about it. I am also pagan in my mode of celebration and ritual, but because it's fun and makes sense, not because I believe in any pagan deities either.
So by saying I'm an atheist, I'm merely being honest. That's all. I do have spiritual beliefs, just ones that don't involve gods.

The knowledge that my Humanistic and Animalistic morals wont just disappear if god doesn't exist, the knowledge that the only things I "believe" in are proven to be true...
It may be easier for me as I was born into a rather nonreligious family, I was born vegetarian too, so I equate a life without religion and meat much like most people would see a life without, say, pets...

The satisfaction from the knowledge that I have behaved honestly.
A sense of connectedness with the real world.
A motive for valuing life.
A clear understanding of the nature of religion and religious belief, and of the role of faith in religion.
A blissful feeling when I allow myself to be properly awed at nature.
All the sex I can ever ask for, with gorgeous young women who are impressed by the Ferrari.
Oh, and of course all the infants I can eat.
===================
(Later: ) Hmm. These emails I'm getting suggest that the theists didn't know about the Ferraris.

I "get"nothing from atheism,it is not something I'm supposed to "get" anything from,it is simply a disbelief in god/gods. I came to be an atheist through reading the bible and rejecting the notion that an invisible man started everything,another invisible man has nothing better to do with eternity than trying to send lil ol' me to everlasting hell,and that I am a "sinner" because of what someone else did.

I am not bound to act in certain ways b/c of ancient traditions. I act according to what I believe is moral and right to make the world a better place. I do not live a moral life out of fear that there will be retribution if I do not, I live a moral life to make myself a better person. I believe becoming an athiest has made me believe in myself more and I have become a stronger person. Also, I do not expect an afterlife, so I try to enjoy every moment I have in this life.

~~~bee ,,,,, Most respectfully, and seriously, I don't "get" anything "from atheism". It's more of what I DON'T GET from Theism. Atheism is merely an Aspect within a Beleif System as a Whole.
What's with the "what's in it for me?" mentality?
If you're a Christian for self gain then "God" will know you're true intentions.
I must bring up the south park where cartman became a preacher: even a cartoon can make that argument!
Peace of mind. Because I know I am questioining and coming to my own logical terms. Whether that be from the thoughts and findings of others or from my own instinct.
Also peace of mind , a sense of satisfaction and dare I say pride that I am taking responsibility for myself and not looking to a belief structure to support me or provide excuses when I bugger up.....i.e. in Christian terms, man has self will but often 'bad' behaviour is credited to the influence of Satan.
