That depends on how drunk the audience is; but usually not.

OK. A little bit "happy" is one thing, but sloppy drunk is another. See, drunks are unpredictable. They don't usually have manners, can fly off the handle at a moment's notice, hit on you, fondle you or your spouse, knock over/damage instruments, even start fights.

And, if you don't perform their song, tell their joke, or allow them to paw at you, they can become really ugly - which can be dangerous.

I'm talking about a bar, club or tavern, now. Not a reception (although they can have their own set of problems). At least at a reception, everyone is up for a good time - and they were specially invited to attend the event. A tavern on the other hand, may be roost to someone who's angry or hurt and is trying to drink away their pain. That's why a lot of rowdy bars have cages for their performers to play in.

I'd rather play on someone's front porch where everyone is happy just by being there.

Tipsy, sometimes. Raging drunk, no. They have no concentration, don't get the jokes, and can become belligerent.
