I have 2 computers and 2 copies of Microsoft Office Professional 2003. One of my computers comepletely crashed and the hard drive is shot. I want to reinstall Office but can't figure out which copy is on which computer. I have the product keys and original disks for both programs. I can get the product ID from Office on the computer that works. I want to figure out which copy of office is on my computer that works and reinstall the other copy on my new computer that replaces the one with the non-working hard drive. Can anybody help? Thanks!

I can find the product ID but it is not the same as the product Key. The product ID is not listed on the original software cases nor is it part of the product key.

Open up Word, CLick Help, then Click About Microsoft Office Word.
This will give you a Product ID which although not your Product Key will also be printed on the same certificate of autenticity as your product key (usually below it and maybe only the last 9 digits) This will help you to identify which copy is installed on the other computer.
If you read your EULA you will see that even with Office Professional "THIS LICENSE MAY NOT BE SHARED, TRANSFERRED TO OR USED CONCURRENTLY ON DIFFERENT COMPUTERS" so it is important that you install the correct one as Office 2003 has to be activated and the last this you want is for Microsoft to disable both copies via windows update.

Under help there should be about microsoft office. This will open a window with your product key.

The help section show the product ID which may not be the same as the key (not sure).

This product here seems to be able to retrieve the key you need. Trail version available, not sure what the limits are: http://www.product-key.com/

Figure out what's on the OTHER computer, and remove THAT copy from consideration. Easy enough, right? You say you only have two, yes? 2 -1 = 1.

Download belarc adviser from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html... it's the tool Crucial used to give you to identify what's in your computer. Run it. Examine its report. One of the things it reports is the product key of all installed Microsoft products.

It's probably getting it out of the registry, so if you run regedit and search for the value of your keys you'll probably find one of them that way too.

if you have the disks just reinstall. if not download the free trial then register your product key again with the same exact info. Also Id recommend reformatting your computer or do a clean install of your OS to make sure the programs that messed up your OS is completely gone.
