I've used Nemex and D-Worm chewables. They seem to be good quality and work well.

Why are you deworming your dog before going to the vet? You're better off to just take the little guy (or at least his turd) to the vet so they can test for parasites and get him the right, quality wormer. The stuff you buy over the counter is generally not very good and doesnt kill all parasites.

There are NO good over the counter wormers and it is a very bad idea to worm your dog for worms he doesn't even have. Take a stool sample to the vet and get the appropriate wormer for the type of worms he has. The over counter stuff comes with a huge risk of adverse reactions including siezures, neurological problems and death.
Don't try to cut corners here. It would be a huge disservice to your dog.

Most over the conter deworming agents do not work very well, as they are sold over the counter! Your best bet is to take a stool sample to the vet and have them check it over. (Give your vet a call and see if they will take the sample without an office visit.) That way they can tell you if you even need one, and if so, can give exactly what will work. (Most deworming med's are not expensive.)

My personal opinion is to NOT buy any deworming product over the counter - identify the worms and get the correct worming medication from your vet.

Why do it before the vet? You'll more than likely be bringing a stool sample in for parasite testing anyway. You should just wait to find out what, if any, parasites your pet has, then the doctor will give you the correct medication for the parasites that are found.

You don't get broad-spectrum wormers from anywhere other than the vets because the required drugs are only available on prescripton or PML from the vets. So hold on to your money until you get to the vets!
