I'm just curious, because some people seem to believe that all Christians are Southerners, and must be hicks. They also seem to believe that all of us are from small towns, sleep with our cousins, dropped out of school when we were thirteen, live on farms, and watch NASCAR.
As for those who aren't Christians, how about a short survey (inspired by Muslimah) on what you think I, as a Christian, am like?
1. Am I from a Southern State or a Northern State? Without looking at my profile, which one?
2. What level of education have I reached?
3. Have I always been a Christian?
4. What kind of music do I like?
5. Do I smoke, or drink alcohol?
I'm just tired of stereotypes. If you'd like to destroy some regarding your own religion, feel free.

Thanks for great answers, everyone!
Now, as for me:
1. I'm not from the South, though I did live in South Carolina for a small part of my childhood, and in Oklahoma for one year. I'm actually a Washington State native.
2. High school, with some college.
3. No, I've only been a Christian for seven months.
4. I like all kinds of music, but most especially enjoy opera, classical, and heavy metal. I just don't like anything that contains what I consider gratuitous profanity.
5. I do drink occasionally though never to drunkenness. I picked up smoking thirteen years ago and haven't been able to quit. I AM trying though!
Mostly, I'm just tired of people assuming that ALL Christians are from the South. We are not, and even if we were, being Southern is NOT a bad thing!

Christian here,Tennessee, Graduated College, have my own business, don't like NASCAR, however I love Football, My favorite team: you guess! I was raised on a farm, and I am not ashamed of the fact. We worked hard, and earned an honest living. I like Christian and Country and Old Time Rock and Roll music if it can be understood, however I do not like music it does not matter what kind if you can not understand the words and the words are not worth saying. I do not smoke, drink, chew or kiss lips that do. The only way my husband is kin to me is by marriage, however he is my brother in Christ, if you know what I mean. Became a Christian at the age of 20

1. Can't tell but judging by what you've said, northern.
2. I'd guess college.
3. I don't know. Maybe.
4. Also can't tell.
5. No.
I was born in Huntington Beach, California, and have lived in the Midwest (mostly Michigan) for the larger part of my life. Two years ago I moved to where I currently live, which is Richmond, Virginia. On Sunday I attended my first NASCAR race.
I believe in small-scale evolution and the Big Bang. Who says that's not how God does things?

Hey...I am from a Southern state and am Buddhist. I am college educated with a little post graduate work, I was a Christian as a younger person, I listen to jazz, blues, old school music, just about anything but country, and I do not smoke or drink though I am devoted to ginseng. I grew up in Miami, FL and have lived in NYC and New Orleans. NASCAR bores me. I too am tired of stereotypes.

I'm living in North Carolina. I was born in Michigan and lived the first 24 yaers of my life there. I became a Christian after living here 3 years. I feel it's easier to be open about being a Christian in the south. I had never heard anyone talk about Jesus at work untill I moved here. (same type of work in both places) I know there are very good (and vocal) christians in the North. I just think it was more a part of everyday life here in a small southern town. I have a GED and some college courses. I trained as a medical assistant at a small business school in Michigan. Never heard of NASCAR till I moved here, met an x-ray tech from Wisconsin who took me to my first race. I've been hooked ever since. My husband who lived here his entire life had never been a race fan, till I took him to his first race. We live a modest town, in a subdivision just outside of the city. I am now a homemaker and he is a self employed plumber. He Graduated high school and spent three years in the air force.(Japan and the Phillipians). We are non denominational Christians, although we are probably closest to Pentacostal. Actualy got saved in a methodist church. But like the freedom of worship in the pentecostal church. we like Christian contemporary, country and old rock and roll (Bob segar, Foreigner, Aerosmith, etc..) I only listen to Christian now but my family still listen to a variety
We don't smoke, or drink alcohol. I wear make up occasionaly and only wear my hair long because my husband likes it that way. I do speak in tongues, but only in my prayers, we don't roll in the isles,or handle snakes. We believe God has a sense of humor, and we do smile and even laugh in church. I wears shoes outside, and in. had my tubes tied after two kids. I take my Christmas lights down after Christmas, (usually before new years.) We live in a house and cut our grass. Thanks for the chance to vent. You're right people think the south is full of "red necks". There are some who only have a little pink on their necks.

I resent the implication that God sends hurricanes to the southern states to torture us. the position are you from? i don't believe of God led to the typhoon to hit Baton Rouge 2 years in the past. We were out of potential for 2 and a 1/2 weeks in ninety 5 degree, one hundred% humidity climate.

Christianity was designed by the Romans around 313AD to take control of their slaves and keep them profitable. Christianity is the strongest in the US southeast because that was the last place where it had close proximity to real human slaves. It used imposed ignorance, poverty, and terror to control the slaves of the Romans, up to 1789. Today we see exaggerated ignorance and poverty where christianity is the strongest, in the southeast. Christianity provided the terror of this control formula through it's dogma, and supplemented it with real terrror like the KKK and today's dixiecrats.
