Most of it makes no sense anyway. It blows my mind that so many otherwise intelligent people (according to themselves) follow it blindly. The only thing my parents told me was to "just believe and don't question it". What's up with that?

Scott B, part of your answer made absolute sense and the other part shot your sensible part all to hell. You can't have your cake and eat it too. How can anyone "believe anything" if there's no proof? I have learned to trust on one who says, "just trust me!"

I do not follow anything blindly. I had doubts about the Bible at age 7 or 8, and that increased as I grew older and wiser. I have a degree in Art and Philosophy. In the latter subject, I studied many religions, so I am objective about them. I also took Bible History. It listed many contradictions in the Bible, and I find many more in other sources and on my own. The science in the Bible is infantile. My siblings believe it is a sin to question religion. That is nice for con men who say they are priests. Robert S. DeRopps noted that organized religion is the oldest con game.

I guess it just depends on the kind of person you are, if you are like me you take everything with a grain of salt, do your own studying and make up your own mind and ultimately you come to the conclusion that anything is possible. You may not know how or why because the universe is larger than we could ever even imagine, literally. But I guess from your point of view it is enough to put down religion because it is what all the other drones are doing, you will get up, take a crap, go to a nowhere job, come home, eat, and fall asleep every night right up till the day you die and only then realize you wasted your entire life trying to be right instead of saying, WHAT IF.

What we choose to believe in is up to each individual person. The Bible is not outdated and all of it is beneficial.--2 Timothy 3:16, 17. At Romans 15:4 "For all the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope." Also, John 20:31 "These have been written down that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that, because of believing, you may have life by means of his name." Help is needed to understand the Bible.--Acts 8:30, 31. Perhaps you might consider having a Bible Study with Jehovah's Witnesses by contacting your nearest Kingdom Hall.

Dear One, Always love and respect your parents views but always question everything. Read The Disappearance of The Universe By Gary R. Renard. Make sure it is okay with your parents that you read it. They love you and feel that they are offering you the best they have. You will be on your own someday and you will seek answers. Remember that only love is real. Go give them a hug right now if they are around.

Bless you.

no.

But, here's food for thought. The bible teaches that the Gospels will sound like foolishness to those who don't believe. This makes sense in many areas of life. If your son comes up to you and says he wants to be a rock star, you might think him to be a fool if you don't believe he can do it. But, if you put some faith into your son, even though you don't know if he will succeed, it will no longer be foolishness in your eyes. Now apply that to faith in the bible. If you put some faith into the scriptures, it won't seem like 'crap' right away. You'll be able to able to study them and figure out what they are without preconceived notions of foolishness. Then you can truly decide if you believe them or not based on your experiences with them.

Of course you aren't supposed to "just believe and don't question it". From that statement, it is obvious that your parents were not serious about Christianity and in teaching their children about it.

When you learn anything new, you should always ask questions, study and learn all that you can.

Your not supposed to believe because "it's too old to be proven", you should believe without proof. Using faith, God supplies the truth, you'll never know that if you can't go out on faith. Intellegence and faith are quite different things. You can have a lot of one and not enough of the other, or a lot of both, or not enough.

Believe what you will, and leave others alone. If more parents taught their children to respect others beliefs, or lack of, the world would be a better place.

The Bible promised that people today can receive the gift of God's Spirit.

Also it promises that Jesus will still heal people and do other miracles for them, and He does. Do a web search with the key words "Jesus documented miracle" for some examples.
