I say no, but I sort of had an argument with my sister about this. She claims that since she does believe in God but doesn't believe in organized religion she is Agnostic. I refused to label myself as that as well. At the time I wasn't familiar with Deism so I just claimed to be of no particular belief or faith. I am definitely against organized religions, revealed religions, etc. I respect those other people's beliefs but to me religion has not seemed logical to me for a long time now. Can someone really knowledgeable on this topic explain the subtle differences between an atheist, a deist, and an agnostic. I consider myself closest to a deist. I don't believe in revealed religions. I believe God exists, and created all life and the universe but I don't believe he intefears, at least not directly so I subscribe to the whole "clockmaker," theory. I choose to believe in God because it seems very logical to me that a superior being or force created the universe.

If you do not believe in religion but believe in God then you are deist.

Agnostic means you are not sure if God exists or not.

It makes them fed up with the lies.
For the quick answer a deist believes there IS a God.
An agnostice is not sure one way or the other.
An atheist is sure there is NO God.

Here is something for you to consider. Matt. 24: 10-13, Jesus describes false religions would crop up claiming to be Christian for the purpose of misleading many. Their teachings would not be from God. In ch. 15: 9, they would teach commands of men as doctrine. Most people of good will have a "light bulb" moment where they say, "Wait a minute, This doesn't make sense." God's commands should make sense. Maybe this isn't from God.

I submit that you and your sister have had such a moment. You have seen the hypocracy of many of the 1,000s of false religions. You have merely forgotten, probably from frustration, Jesus did say there was only one, but one that is real, true religion to God. It is up to us to find it. Hebrews 10: 24-25 mentions what we are to do including "not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together." That means in an organized way meetings.

Why is it so shocking that someone cna believe in God but not belong to an organized religion? Organized religion isn't the same thing as believing in God by any means. And you would just have to call him a Theist since you haven't described what it is he believes about this higher power.

Agnostic means you neither believe nor disbelieve in God, as others have said.

A Deist believes God created the universe *and then abandonded it.* This is actually a particular religion, though they don't have a very complicated belief system.

I call myself a theist, because I believe in God but have no particular religion.

No. I think agnosticism only requires one thing: admiting, despite your beliefs, that you really know nothing and could be wrong.

An atheist simply does not believe in a deity. I personally believe that there could be both atheist agnostics and theist agnostics because believing something does not constitute knowledge. Of course I think we are ALL agnostics and some are just lothe to admit it!

Shaz is pretty close, but an agnostic is someone who says that it is impossible to know if God exists. The word "gnosis" means knowledge.

An atheist does not believe in the supernatural (God).

A deist believes in a god, but not in the Christian God. He or she basically sees God as in everything.

If someone says he does not beleive in religion but believes in God, it does not make him an agnostic. You don't need a religion to believe in God.

I think that paragraphs tells me a lot more about what you believe than a simple label like "theist", "atheist", or "agnostic" ever could. I'd avoid such labels as they really aren't that helpful when it comes to such a complex issue as somebody's personal theology

An agnostic is someone who believes that neither science nor religion can comprehensively describe the universe, so your sister's wrong here.

No-an agnostic says they dont know if there is a God or not

I was an agnostic-born a Jew-but I finally came to know God too. and this may help-and deals with religions inferior but they can lead to Jesus too=The life records prove Jesus came and died-I doubt there is execution records on file-yet it is possible yet take it a step further-Isaiah did more than mention the death of Jesus the Messiah-He recorded it

Isaiah 52:13-53:12, and also said Jesus would be God almighty- Isaiah 9:6 "Unto us will be born a child, a Son is given, and he will be almighty God and the prince of peace."

of course some will say that the Jewish people who reject Jesus put this into their Jewish Hebrew Scriptures so it is not true-why would those that reject Jesus put this in and then leave it there still today? be real

what is the advantage of being a member of Isalm to reject the Messiah Jesus-yet claim to believe him?
you become a Muslim by saying you believe Jesus and then rejecting him.
some examples=Jesus says to love your enemies and do good to them and share the gospel. those in lust-even mohamad who married a 9 year old little girl Aysha at 40 years old-the results leads to taking viginity and also violence sometimes too=is it any wonder-as Muslims on the other hand=

the sunni's murdering the Shiites-and vica versa -since the bombing of the Golden Mosque January 2006 and each other blowing up each others mosques and dragging their leaders out into the street and cold blooded murdering them.

cold blooded murderers? should we deny the Messiah Jesus teaching to care about others or to leave Iraq and let the terrorists take over the country with their billions in oil to support their terrorism throughout the world?
this is what one man here said to my question-a muslim who is supposed to listent to Jesus according to his own religion=

in regards to a muslim who I asked about the messiah Jesus helping one in their life-he who says as Islam says to believe in Jesus-wrote this =
Dentist_Member since: April 21, 2007
" I've never had a Prophet/slave/messenger of God talk to me."

well Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice and follow me." John 10

the problem is we have to do what the good shepherd Messiah Jesus says "I love you repent quickly from your sin (even one lie), Behold I knock on your heart door if you hear my voice and opent he door, I will come in and begin a fellowship with you and you with me, if you repent and ask me in." Revelation 1:1, 3;19&20 and chapters 19-22 about the joy of heaven in salvation, and the agony of hell weeping forever for those that refuse the voice of Messiah Jesus.

As a Jew-I come to messiah from the prophecies Isaiah 52:13-53:12 as I gave this man but he refused to listen- "He will lay down his life as a lamb and make atonement for our sins." will we listen?
LET JESUS HELP YOU, REPENT OF YOUR SINS AND BE NOT ONE OF THOSE SPOKEN OF -IN THE LAST DAYS MANY WILL SPEAK EVIL OF THEIR RULERS AND CALL GOOD BAD AND BAD GOOD.
why not make good music like Amazing grace sung of the one Messiah Jesus thanks

that is how you become true to God from a former agnostic too David
