a Christian repeated an Urban Legend style story as factual, and as something they witnessed themselves?
We prayed, Mom was cured, the doctors were baffled. Funny how stories like these hardly ever turn up in Medical Journals, but Reader's Digest always prints them.
I prayed over my friend's broken bone and it healed right in front of my eyes. This one is usually told by youth Pastors and supposed former 'sinners' who immediately repented and joined the Church and are now there to give their 'Testimony'.
Are there others that I haven't encountered personally?
Any Lady Hope style death bed conversion stories?
These stories seem to have a life of their own in the Christian community.

Here's one for ya. My brother had a get together at his house. He's a lead singer of a gospel band. I stopped by his get together, and there was this woman there who was giving a testimony where she proceeded to tell everyone that she had a painful toothache so she had asked her church to pray for her. And she actually said (gotta stop while I laugh) that god came into her mouth, removed her tooth and replaced it with another tooth!
I said wow, so you have no pain now? She said "oh, it hurts every once in awhile, but I just pray and god takes away the pain."
Now why the heck would god have given her a faulty new tooth?

This is true. A man I know was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given a 3% of surviving. He was inspired by a line in a Star Trek movie and said, "I don't believe in the no-win scenario." He talked to a lot of cancer experts and found a hospital that was using a risky and highly toxic procedure which had 50% survival rates in a small scientific trial. While he was at the cancer center, WIlliam Shatner visited him and gave him an autographed picture.
Now, 8 months later, he is cancer free.
Therefore, William Schatner is God.

Wow, you really seem to think that we're idiots. Can we not even tell the difference between someone we know being healed and a story that's been spread around?
Are we seven year olds?
I've never personally known anyone who has confused a healing in their family with a healing from "Reader's Digest." But I've known many that have had illnesses healed that shouldn't have been and parents come to God on their deathbeds (genuine or not, only God knows).
Please don't stereotype us.

Healing can take place but does require a little effort on the healed person's part. It requires drastic changes in the person's habits and mental outlook...but laying on of hands can be useful...it is called reiki healing elsewhere...it does not radically, at that instant heal...

You've touched on my favorite. "My aunt had cancer and the doctor gave her all these horrible treatments that made her feel bad, but we prayed and prayed and eventually she was cured."
