Ok, i'm led to believe that sin exists as a punishment for Eve eating the forbidden fruit after Satan tempted her with it.

supposedly, God didn't want Eve to sin but because he had given her free-will she had CHOSEN to sin.

So why did God create the option to sin?

If God didn't let Satan in the Garden of Eden (which he COULD have done if he is all-powerful....afterall he banished Satan to Hell, so he CAN move him) there would have been no original sin, therefore no sin now. Agree?

Does that mean that God CANNOT control Satan? or did he want every single person ever to suffer because of Eve's sin? He must have known that Satan was there, but he did nothing?

So is God a dictator? Eve's 'sin' was that she didn't obey God.

I've heard some Christians say that the Bible (God's word) is a guide, but God's word here was his law.

Her crime was not doing as he said, condeming us all to a world with sin

Horrible dictator

The serpent in the Garden wasn't Satan. It was a serpent, "the most cunning of the beasts". After the fruit fiasco, God punished the serpent by making him slither on his belly instead of walking like the other animals, and the snake and man would always be enemies. The church said the serpent was "Satan in disguise" only much later. They retrofitted the myth to include Satan.

There was no concept of Satan as an enemy of God at the time the myth was written. It wasn't until some of the Hebrews were forced to live in Babylon (the Captivity) that they began to view Satan this way. There was a religion popular in Babylon called Zoroastrianism. It included a heaven, hell, an evil god (Angra Manyu) and Judgment day. These concepts only became part of Hebrew mythology after they returned to Israel.

He didn't. It was the serpent than tempted eve, not Satan. At the time of Adam and Eve, Satan/Lucifer was an angel in heaven - the highest angel. He doesn't fall from heaven until the war in heaven where he and 1/3 of the angels rise up and are cast down. That's in the Book of Revelations (which supposedly hasn't occurred yet).

Why did not God destroy Satan promptly after he rebelled?

Serious issues were raised by Satan: (1) The righteousness and rightfulness of Jehovah’s sovereignty. Was Jehovah withholding from mankind freedom that would contribute to their happiness? Were mankind’s ability to govern their affairs successfully and their continued life truly dependent on their obedience to God? Had Jehovah been dishonest in giving a law that stated that disobedience would lead to their death? (Gen. 2:16, 17; 3:3-5) So, did Jehovah really have the right to rule? (2) The integrity of intelligent creatures toward Jehovah. By the deflection of Adam and Eve the question was raised: Did Jehovah’s servants really obey him out of love or might all of them abandon God and follow the lead being given by Satan? This latter issue was further developed by Satan in the days of Job. (Gen. 3:6; Job 1:8-11; 2:3-5; see also Luke 22:31.) These issues could not be settled by merely executing the rebels.

Not that God needed to prove anything to himself. But so that these issues would never again disrupt the peace and well-being of the universe, Jehovah has allowed ample time for them to be settled beyond all doubt. That Adam and Eve died following disobedience to God became evident in due time. (Gen. 5:5) But more was at issue. So, God has permitted both Satan and humans to try every form of government of their own making. None have brought lasting happiness. God has let mankind go to the limit in pursuing ways of life that ignore His righteous standards. The fruitage speaks for itself. As the Bible truthfully says: “It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.” (Jer. 10:23) At the same time God has given his servants opportunity to prove their loyalty to him by their acts of loving obedience, and this in the face of enticements and persecution instigated by Satan. Jehovah exhorts his servants, saying: “Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me.” (Prov. 27:11) Those proving faithful reap great benefits now and have the prospect of eternal life in perfection. They will use such life in doing the will of Jehovah, whose personality and ways they truly love.

How is it "free will" if there's no possibility of sin? That, to me, sounds as if God is a dictator, not allowing us any decision making ability.

Besides, God created us to love Him. If we had NO choice other than to love Him, that's not love at all. If we have to make difficult, sacrificing choices - that's a wonderful form of love. After all, that's what God did when He sent His son to die for us.

God didn't have anything to do with that tragic event. He gave ADAM control over all the world! Had Adam "put his foot down" with Eve and brought her and himself under subjection, we wouldn't be in this mess! God handed Adam the ball and he dropped it, plain and simple.

Totally free will on Eve's part. Plus, obviously, she wasn't strong enough to avoid the temptation. But who really, really knows for sure what happened way back then?

As long as we have free will, we have the ability to sin... with or without Satan's help.

Without free will, we are simply robots.
