If the crime was 30 years ago I doubt it would be on your record now. I presume you are worried about it because if you want to work with people then you will need to have a police background check done and you are worried about it showing up.

Providing it was a one-off and you haven't been in any trouble since then I am sure that something you did as a kid, nearly 30 years ago wouuldn't be taken into account in applying for a job now.

You could always ring your local police station and make the enquiry of them, or try your local citizens advice bureau.

Good luck

I work with Disclosures every day. Your conviction will show up on your disclosure but as this is your only conviction I would not overly concern yourself. As long as you are open and honest about your past and how you have learned from your experience people will respect your honesty. If you are indeed looking for employment in the area of helping youths who are now in the situation that you found yourself in back then it may go some way to helping in that you know how they feel and can identify with their situation. This conviction is not the end of your life. You clearly do need forgiveness, from yourself. You will get a good job and carry on because you feel remorse for your past actions. You are not a bad person.

Chin up and get job hunting. Your future is waiting!

You can go toyour local police station and ask for a form for a record check, you have to pay about £10 but its peace of mind I guess your looking for. We all make mistakes, but it sounds as if you've got your head screwed on, because you haven't continued with the life of crime. I would give you a chance if I were your future employer, but be honest with them.

30 years ago for shoplifting would be classed as a spent conviction.only employers like the armed forces, police will ask 4 u to supply spent convictions.if it is still on your record[which i doubt]i wuld not even mention it.

Yes it will still be on your record and I'm afraid you wont be able to work for probation or and establishment like that.
