The best advice is to treat the customer as you would want to be treated. Never lose your cool, remain in control. If your dealing with a difficult person. The best way is to say How can I help resolve this matter for you? If the request is too demanding suggest something else that will be equally satisfying. Always keep a calm voice when speaking with the customer even if they are being rude. They will stop being rude to you and once the problem is resolved they will say thank you for your help and most likely apologize for their behavior. Remember you are the professional.

Here's a bad experience in a store recently: I was in Louis Vuitton in soho a couple weeks ago. While the salespeople were very good, who let me try on sunglasses and check myself out, there was this ridiculous security guard. He followed only me around the store!!! It got ridiculous, when I would purposely walk to another counter to see if I was imagining anything. I wasn't. This man was crazy! It got so ridiculous, that I finally blurted out, "Why are you being so paranoid??? I do have money." I had a pair of sunglasses on, and my wallet on the counter. I walk away for a moment to check out a purse, he takes the sunglasses off the counter and packs them away in the door. The salesperson comes back and asks me, "Where are the sunglasses?" I said, "That security guy put it away." He couldn't even find the glasses again, because the crazy guy put them away. Would he leave me alone??? Nope. He actually said something under his breath and kept following me.. I was so annoyed, that I left the store, because I felt so uncomfortable shopping there. I wrote a letter, letting the management know that he was being stupid. Either he was acting stupid because I was young, or Black. I was not looking "like a thug," I was wearing a ralph lauren sweater and navy pants, with my wallet. This is not the first time I experienced this. I think that American stores should learn from other countries, who do not act so stupid and treat people like criminals. By the way, I don't have a problem with louis vuitton in general. I went to the store in Paris a week prior and bought a purse. Actually I went a week after this incident, I went to the Louis store in my neighborhood, and received excellent service. The soho lost out on a large commision. I spent $2000. I refuse to buy at stores that treat me horribly.

I have a scenerio for you on the reverse side. I work technical support in a call center and one morning I received a call from a woman demanding my name and last name (to which I replied I was not required to give her) she immediately began calling me a "bastard" and I worked for "bastards". I patiently waited as she insulted me personally and still didn't know what the call was about. In between instults I was able to ask a question or two and determined that the woman had recieved a letter from a lawyer and wanted to know why "we" were mailing her letters. I advised her that I couldn't answer that question to which he "called me the dumbest person she ever spoke to" and read off the lawyers name to me. I then told her that I didn't know the name of the 20,000 some odd people who are employed by my company. She again insulted me and told me that I should know the name of every person in the company. I then made a huge mistake by asking her what the letter was concerniing, trying to determine of the letter was even from my company or had anything to do with us. She refused to tell me stating it was none of my business (which is true) and that she was going to sue me for asking her that question. After several more minutes of insults, screaming and threats (still not sure what or who she was talking about) she hung up. Ah, just how I like to start my day. I don't mind when someone instults or talks poorly about the company, but when you do the same to me as person I get...irritated.

The very worst customer service I ever encountered was Sprint. I was not even disputing the bill, just wanted to know where on my bill to find the roaming minute charges. The rep would not be quiet long enough for me to explain myself fully, then had the nerve to tell me to be quiet and listen. I told her to go ahead and when she was finished and still had not answered my question, I asked again and explained in detail, what I wanted to know. She YELLED "I TOLD YOU....."at me. I was so shocked at first, that I just sat there for a few seconds, then I asked to speak to her supervisor. She then informed me that the supervisor would tell me the same thing. I asked again to speak to her supervisor and she repeated what she had told me the first time. I calmly asked her name, which she gave me, along with her employee ID#. She never connected me to a supervisor. I just hung up on her and called back. I spoke to another rep, that listened patiently and answered my question immediately.

Worst customer service: Wendy's! I go, they take forever, when they do ask me my order, allI get is attitude. I get my order, it's wrong, I go back for them to fix it and all I get is attitude. I hear them talking about me even though I'm as nice as possible (i do customer service too so i know how to act).

I get my food, go back home, there is no fork, napkins, sour cream, dressing for my salad. I don't go back, I eat my food without the condiments with my bare hands and then I have the bad attitude.

Yes I have. I work in the insurance industry. I have to secure insurance for all subs before allowing on my jobs. I called the sub and explained to her that I needed her insurance and she stated "I am so sick & tired of your faxes and your calls. I will send insurance as soon as available". (This sub was very angry and rude) I responded back by telling her in a nice voice - I appreciate all your assistance in resolving this issue - I look forward to receiving your ins. documents, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. Thank You and have a good day. 2 hrs. later I had her ins. docs. Kindness just unnerves them because they do not know how to react.

i hate sprint. they have the WORST customer service ever.

here's the situation...
i keep getting charged for a game that was supposed to be removed from the acct in nov of 06. it is march of 07 and the $3.50 still on my bill.
i call to get it removed from my bill and to pay my bill.
the service rep SEEMED to know what he was doing, but somehow changed my husband's cell number (we share an acct) and changed our address and then we got disconnected. he kept saying that our service wasn't set up in the right calling area for where we lived...
anyway, i called back and that rep hung up on me b/c i asked for a supervisor instead of talking to her and THEN finally 4 hours later, another supervisor got my husband's number back and everything was fine.
HOWEVER, that sup said i'd get a $25 service credit for the hassle. and that never showed up on my bill, so i had to fight to get that in there in april and THEN get this...they shut off my service b/c i had reached my $200 limit b/c THEY charged me $200 for an early term fee b/c of the "number change" issue in march!!!

i was so infuriated, but i called this ONE call center in the sprint company and found a call center that actually employs helpful people. barbara helped me and was friendly and courteous and knowledgable.

hope that's what you're looking for.
