It's a P2P program/software that you could use to download music, videos or other stuff.
But if you want a literal meaning, then a lime is some sort of a citrus fruit and a wire is a malleable piece of metal or copper or whatever you could use for whatever purpose you have in mind. Don't ask me why they called the software Limewire.

I wasn't sure with my answer when I answered this because this is in the Beer, Wine & Spirits section but as far as I know the only meaning to lime wire is a P2P (mainly) music file downloading software.
Basically it runs on the Java platform, and you type in the song name and the artist and it returns search results which you download within the software.

Here's a link.
It works a bit like Kazaa or Morpheus.

Limewire is a peer-to-peer file sharing client for the Java Platform, which uses the Gnutella network to locate and transfer files. Released under the GNU General Public License, Limewire is free software. It also encourages the user to pay a small fee, which will then give the user access to LimeWire Pro.

Limewire is a freeware (free software) that enables P2P (Peer-to-peer) download and upload. Most people do not recommend this program because it is mostly swarmed by viruses and spyware. Use a torrent only.

It's a peer to peer sharing program that requires an internet connection. You "share" or access the files of other users on a vast network who open select folders in their hard drives to people like them.
