Seems an odd question when there are so many of what are classed by some as "False Gods" already. Like all those the Romans had etc. ... Kinda goes to figure, yes, some would develop their own Gods.

Possibly not in today's time. Gods were historically invented because, at the time of invention, science couldn't explain a particular phenomenon (i.e. the sun = Apollo riding a chariot across the sky).

We all have a need to worship someone, but people are always inventing new gods. People want to worship a god that is right in front of them and that is easy to comfortably worship. To worship the real God and do his will takes a little effort and work and he isn't always directly in front of our faces, but he is evident, he is real, and he is the only true God (the one who inspired the Bible).

I think the world has already invented one. It's referred to as "money".

We already did.
People invented Gods because they were too ignorant to explain why the things are the way they are. (Space, time, evolution...)
So, if it can't be explained, it must be the 'work of God.'
Science > Religion
Enough said.

probably. it's been happening for as long as civilization and a little while before.
it's easier to say it was done by some entity beyond us to every question you can't find an answer to. it makes thing seem organized, purposeful or easier, makes us feel secure, etc. every civilization in existence has come up with something of the sort. nothing unique about the one you refer to.

YES!!!!!!!!!! We have over 3,000 different religions and cults and every church I've been in there are different rules, so there is a different God at the churches, we also have our idols that we treat as God's and pray to them.

If the shroud of Turin was proven a fake, would we just pretend it is true because of the beautiful sentiments that it would create?

(Not commenting on if there really is a God or not)
