All depends on your major, engineering, I would say the 65, you could learn working on it.

Well, depends on a few things.
Style.
The 1965 Mustang is an American icon that is fairly recognized by any person that knows cars, you will get attention in this car. Guys, (Both young and Older) Will notice this car. And if it is in good shape will envy it. It's just that type of car.
The 2004 Mustang is a good looking car, however very and I mean very few people will put it in the same league as the 1965 mustang. It's better than most cars, aggressive and "fast looking" But it isn't a classic like the 1965 Mustang.
"Money and Savings"
Ok, for starters a 1965 Mustang may actually be more expensive than a 2004 model, depending on the model you get. Depending on condition and model a 1965 mustang runs anywhere from 5'000 to 15'000 and sometimes more. A 2004 Mustang can run anywhere from 3'000 to 30'000 once more depending on model. The 3'000 being the v-6 version and the 30'000 a Saleen V-8 GT Version. (Performance)
Also, if you get a 1965 Mustang you will have a older radio, if it comes with one, outdated safety features, and also problems that come with owning older cars. In just maintaining it for instance, this cars are normally bought by people who adore mustangs, and use them more as a sunday driver instead of a working car. Than you have to consider the 289 V-8 is not exactly good on gas mileage, than you have too consider whether or not you are getting a good working 65 in which too drive. Some people who sell them touch the car up, tell you its fine and than you find out it has a trickle charge problem, or possibly a leak somewhere. The 65 Mustang is a Great car, A Classic as I said. But not practical for what you need.
A 2004 Mustang, in particular the V-6 version, will offer you more reliability, more fuel economy, better performance, Better Audio, and in general a more Modern car. It will haul your friends around better and will not kill you, or any auto freak, if you get a ding.
However, it won't be a crowd stopper like a Mint 65 Mustang Either.
So it all depends on whether you want "wow" factor, or practicality. In your case I'd advise a 04. However if you have the money, and the will to restore a '65 Mustang and are willing to deal with the impracticality of a older car than go for it. They are good looking, and incredibly good sounding cars.
Good Luck.

Nothing beats Old School. A Classic is a Classic. But, are you sure you wanna go to College driving one of these?. Of course you will turn heads, (mostly boys). But then you will have to worry about where you park it because you don't want it to get scratched or be hit by an idiot driver or something. I personally think that as a girl you will look cooler in an '04 Mustang. Leave the classics to Grandpa. And probably a more recent model would be more reliable and safe for you. Anyway, congratulations, you'll be driving your own car for College!

As the owner of a 1967 Mustang, and a college student, I say go with the 2004. I would never dream of taking mine to school with me. Jealous kids will trash it just to be jerks. A 1965 is irreplacable, there are tons of 04's out there

Dad knows what he is talking about. While you are in college, you won't have the money or the resources to maintain the 65. Go to school, enjoy the comforts of the 04 and when you land that great job, and get a home with a garage, then buy your own 65 and then you can drive it for pleasure and not have to depend on it for work.
Good luck, and study hard.

THE NEWER VERSIONS 2004 SHOULD DO. IF YR DAD IS THE ONE BUYING THE CAR. CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOR SHOULD BE EASY FOR YOU. BUT IF YOU GOT THE MONEY THEN YOU SHOULD TRUST YR DAD ANSWERS TO ALL OF YR QUESTIONS.
