If religions say they understand better than scientists the origins of the universe, then doesn't science have tacit permission to study and assert the naturalistic origins of religious beliefs?

Your question and statement are both very valid, and indeed,
such is permissible and reasonable; however, personally
I do not recommend such a debate because - debates lead
to arguments. I advocate discussions, not debates. When
people discuss a topic soundly, a comart will eventually be
reached in harmony.

I think that science has tacit permission to report on what they know best. Science has no interest in the supernatural and say that they do not because they cannot prove the supernatural. So, that being said, how can science comment on the supernatural?

Faith is not provable by science.
The existence of God is not provable by science.
The change that religion makes in a persons heart is not provable by science.

Let the scientists study science with an eye for scrutiny and let theologians study religion with an eye for scrutiny.

Until 200 years ago, most scientists believed in a God of creation.

Give me all the thumbs down you want, what I have said is the truth. Maybe you just don't like the truth.

THEY ALREADY CRITICIZE RELIGIOUS SPIRITUAL VIEWS. RELIGIONS DONT SAY THEY UNDERSTAND BETTER THAN ANYONE THE ORIGINS OF THE UNIVERSE ONLY THAT IT HAS A CREATOR AND THAT IT DIDNT COME ABOUT BY ACCIDENT

Study, yes. Criticize, no.
Present the facts, yes. Draw your conclusions for you, no.

While most scientists actually do describe themselves as spiritually devout, it is not OK for scientists to masquerade as spiritual advisers, and its not OK for a theologist to masquerade as physicist. Let's all be nice to each other.

Historically, as long as we all agree on the facts of physical phenomena in the universe, we tend not to call god in to the argument. Only when we reach the limits of our little monkey brain do we usually summon a deity to explain things. I highly commend the following essay to anyone who is actually open minded on the subject:

It is not the job of science to criticize but to present theories and try to support those theories with empirical evidence.

Why?
I guess scientists must waste some time doing so because creationists spend their time trying to legislate their views, but it just gives these ridiculous notions a national stage that they simply don't deserve, and that if they didn't have political backing they'd never get.

And you're saying they haven't/don't? Silly boy, wakey wakey--you're gonna miss the bus!!! Forgive my jest. I just can't believe that you think even for a second with your GOD GIVEN MIND that scientists and scholars have tried to do this FOR THE PAST 2000 years. Read a book, really.
