Got a tattoo on the side of my foot on Sunday (follows the curve of a flip-flop along my toes). This is my third tattoo, so I knew the pain involved in getting one. My question is, should it hurt this bad 2 days later? It gives off a "hot" sensation, but is not hot to the touch, extremely tender, to the point any pressure on my foot at all causes pain. It is still a little swollen too. Is this normal? I have not worn shoes since I had it done and have been keeping it clean and moist.
Any thoughts???

yes it is normal. foot tattoos are especially sensitive because your feet are so far away from your heart they do not get good circulation so pain and swelling are normal and to be expected. hopefully you have been keeping your foot elevated. if not, you should be for a few days to help with circulation and healing. also this tattoo will probably take a little longer to heal, both of mine did.

most likely you hit a nerve or nerves when you were getting the foot tattoo done. this is the cause usually for the "hot sensation" and/or tingltying sensation. i dont know what you are putting on it, you might had gotten an allergic reaction to whatever cream you are putting on it. go to the pharamcy and buy a & d ointment, it is in the baby section under scresma for diaper rash. apply generally on the tattoo and continue to apply it. it is sort of normal to be in pain for two days or more. i got a tattoo on my lower back to hide a scar i had from a high school injury and it still to this day (a year later) get pinch sensations once in a while. anyways back to you, buy benadryl or tylenol allergy or any other allergice over the counter drug. and take it (through mouth) every day one. you might had gotten an allergic reaction to something, even the ink used for teh tattoo, this is a way of fighting the reaction.

your going to have to probably cut off your foot,......................just a joke, this area of your foot gets alot of movement, everytime you wiggle your toes, or,.. even walk that skin will stretch abit. all of the little cuts in your foot from the needles are just having a hard time healing. Remember to give your pretty new foot lots of air, and in a spot like that KEEP IT CLEAN, very very thin dab of a&d for a few days to much could suck out some color, then try an oil free smell free lotion. I think you'll live remember that tat has been put over a very very touchy part of the foot.

Tattoos on the feet are tough. It is a bony area and very sensitive. You should expect some pain and discomfort for a while after getting one. Just keep doing what you are doing and within a few days it will stop hurting so bad.

I have a tattoo on my foot and it hurt a day or two afterwards as well, but not the way you described it. Maybe talk to your tattoo artist about it?

Keep taking care of it the way the artist told you to.. in the mean while you can put an ice pack on it, wrap an ice pack in a hand towel and put on for 5-10 minutes at a time, it should help with swelling and maybe ease some of your discomfort.

My sister got a tattoo on her foot, and she said that it was the worst tattoo that she had gotten, becuase it hurt so bad. She said that the pain lasted, as well.

I would imagine it has to do with the thinness of the skin and it must almost bruise slightly as there is not much padding on that part of your foot.

i'd imagine because of the physiology of the foot (thin skin, bony...) this would probably bruise more than other parts... if it persists more than another day or two, i'd contact your tattoo artist just to check
