i have 4 severely disabled teens and 3 need wheelchairs. Do they make wheelchairs that are more friendly looking. And are more lightweight? Like a stroller for disabled teenagers? where can i find them?

yes, they make a ton of different kinds of wheelchairs and strollers. are you involved with easter seals at all? they can recommend different chairs and strollers for your teens. or any PT or OT if not Easter Seals. also, there is a magazine called abilations that has a bunch of really cool stuff in that you could use, including strollers. i don't know where you live, but you could also contact a children's hospital and get recommendations. these things are really expensive, but sometimes you can get insurance to pay for them if you get a doctor to recommend them. good luck and feel free to email me if you have anymore questions.

You have two main options:

1. Contact several local vendors and see what they can help you with. This option usually allows the chair to be reimbursed by insurance, medicaid, etc.

2. Find your own cool chair and try to find a way to afford it. You can start by Googling 'cool wheelchair', etc. I don't recommend this approach because of the costs involved.

Depending on the disability, you'll probbaly end up with something like an ultra-light or sports chair, which looks like a minimalistic and colorful stadnard wheelchair.

If anything my friend has a severly disabled teen son and they have a wheelchair that he can function on his own. You should ask their doctor or check out a medical supply store they might have some answers.

Yes they do. I own a lightweight chair myself. I would talk with either your children's doctor, physical or occupational therapist for information. Most insurances, or if your teens are over 18 and eligible for medical, will pay most or all the expenses.
