Okay we currently go to a big AOG (Assemblies of God) church. I like aspects of this religion but just the praying in tongues i dont totally agree with. Love the worship and raising of the hands and clapping to the music etc. Like the fundmentalist element of the religion.

So my question is ... does anyone know a religion that is similar to the AOG but doesnt believe that everyone can be baptised in holy spirit and pray in tongues?.

Do you mean can or should be baptized in the Holy Spirit and pray in tongues?
I personally believe we all receive a "second blessing" of the Holy Spirit by which we are empowered with a gift such as faith, prophecy, apostleship, teaching, preaching, evangelism etc. But not all people receive all the gifts and I certainly believe that speaking in tongues is not "proof" of having received the Holy Ghost, nor is it of primary importance. Still I believe that there are some who do receive that gift. Now if most of them would just use it correctly.
I myself have never spoke in tongues, and that's okay by me.
As for a church? I go to an evangelical/charismatic Methodist church. Yeah go figure. You might look into one of the evangelical non-denominational churches. They believe in the workings of the Holy Spirit, the truth of the Bible but place varying degrees of importance on the whole glossolalia thing.

AOG is a form of Pentacostal I believe? I think the closest thing to that (other than the speaking in tongues) would be the Baptist church.

Like someone said before though, you shouldn't just be looking for a religion; you'll be wanting to look for a church that you feel you can make good relationships at so you can bond with people to help you grow in your walk with Christ.

First you should not look for a religion. But you should start with a relationship with JESUS. Then you need to find a church that believe that the BIBLE is the WORD of GOD and the you must have a personal relationship with HIM.

Each church is different but you can try a Evangelical Free church in your area. You can find one at http://www.efca.org/

As for speaking in tongues the BIBLE does say that it is a gift of the HOLY SPIRIT. But not everyone will speaking in it. The BIBLE also say that we should be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT.

I recommend that you pray and seek GOD's will for you in all this.

I hope this helps.

Your question has a variety of implications, Ka99, but I will limit my reply only to the specifics of your question.
1) does anyone know of a religion that is similar to the AOG? - The AOG is a Pentecostal church and it is one of many Pentecostal churches. It's emphasis on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (as a confimation of one's faith) and the empowerment to "speak in tongues" as the proof of one's confirmation had it's roots in Bethel Bible College, Topeka, Kansas USA on January 1, 1901 when the principal, Charles Fox Parham, laid hands on Ms. Agnes Ozman, a student, and she began to "speak in tongues". Henceforth, this has become the principal doctrine of the Pentecostal Church.
2)Yes there are other churches who believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift of empowerment which can be used for ministry and testimony of one's faith but does not emphasize "speaking in tongues" as the sign of the Holy Spirit's baptism. - the Evangelical Charismatic churches and there are also many scatterred all over the world!
My counsel to you is this: Do not seek a religion but seek the Lord God with all of your heart and have an intimate personal relationship with Him and listen to what He tells you in Scriptures (Bible). Always have a quiet talk with the Lord God and be humble before Him and ask Him to help you with your so many questions because you want to know Him more.
If you do this, I know you will be alright and safe from wrong teachings and doctrines...God bless you always!!!

The bible teaches that one can become drunk in the holy spirit and speak in tongues. So if you are looking for a church that adheres to the bible, I would say you may simply have to become a little disconcerted every now and again. I will add, though that it is a gift given of God and that many do it for show rather than having it contain any substance so I would use the bible's teaching on speaking in tongues to go by as a divining rod for whether or not one church is doing in with accord to the scripture.

Speaking in tongues is one of the 9 spiritual gifts, to be followed by interpretation to edify the church, There is some groups that knows how to use that gift properly, Many Apostolic Church uses it as only as a gift to edify the church. My church uses speaking in tongus as one of the 9 spiritual gifts, We do not believe that speaking in tongues is the evidence of having the Holy Ghost, But as one of the 9 spiriual gifts. I am not aware what country or state you are from, But my church is in Indiana, & our web-site is www.fachurch.org

Well, you may be surprised by the Catholic Church. I attend a parish that has a Lifeteen program(www.lifeteen.com) for youth and we have lots of fun, beautiful music, While at the same time staying to the Truth. I advise that if you are high school or middle school age to check out a parish with the program. The Catholic Church has been here since the beginning and I hope you find what you are looking for there. God Bless,
Elisha

To be baptized with the holy spirit is the new birth. I hope that any fellowship you find teaches that everyone must be born again; which is to be baptized with the holy spirit.

You should pray that the Lord Jesus lead you where you need to go and not just be intent on your likes and dislikes.

How about a Black Baptist church?

I'm neither Black nor Baptist, but that's the first thing that popped into my head when I read your post.

Another possibility would be a non-denominational "Bible" church. They tend to be fundamentalist. (I'm not, but that's what you want, so....) You could always call ahead of time and find out if they do speaking in tongues.
