How wonderful is the nature. Look on your window and see what a beautiful thing the nature is. BUT every wonderful thing realized by nature is made through sacrificies and death, just take the very simple creation of things, it was made thorugh a damn explosion( Big Bang). Or more actual facts, every change of seasons lots of animals die because they fail to adapt, of course this is good for the ecosystem in general, it prevents overpopulation but the greater good doesn`t make it less cruel. So have you noticed how weird things are yet we categorize them as normal? In other words, everything is the way it is, the laws of nature don`t forgive, never, and we don`t have the right to ask "why".

p.s. i post it under R&S because it might have a religious aspect in it even if philosophy would be more adequate.

illyria, you can ask but direct it to whom? you won`t get an answer why everything is made this way, it just is.

ok smart guy, suppose god the almighty made everything. There are still crimes, animals die all over, there`s no real justice and i mean divine justice not our court system, the law of nature is simple, survival of the thoughest and if you don`t adapt you die. So even if your god created it, it doesn`t make it less cruel

Why do you say we don't have the right to ask why. I'll ask why anytime I please. Maybe if people stopped being so damn self absorbed they could help save animals like I do. It never matters what the question is, you always have the right to ask why.

It all depends on how you are asking. That is what Ouija boards are for.
True I agree with that, but it gets you a bit, even if it is tiny closer, by asking these entities since they may well know at least a bit more than us.

How wonderful is the world.. look through your window and see what the hands of God has made.. But every wonderful thing in the world is made through God's living word... Just take the simple creation of things.. It was made through God's words (he spoke and Bang, it happened) or more actual facts, God made seasons, animals die because God said life and death will always occur... in other words everything was made by almighty God... God holds us responsible for our actions, he forgives the obedient and punishes those who disobey and we don't have a right to ask why..

p.s, I posted this in response to your Question coz I thought it needed amendment...

Psalm 19:1[kjv]The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Ecclesiastes 3
1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
[verses taken from kjv]

Ecclesiastes 3:11[kjv]He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Isaiah 55:8[kjv]For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

U must understand that GOD created everything. And he created us too in his own image.

Genesis 1:27[kjv]So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

We are made in his image and we ought to be with him.Our sins have separated us from him.But through JESUS we have a way to him.Are u saved.Do u have a relationship with GOD through JESUS.

John 3:16[kjv] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

so when we believe in JESUS we have eternal life.JESUS lived a sinless life and gave up his life as a sacrifice so we can be sin free.

Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with his blood.
With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.JESUS loves u and wants u to be saved.

It's cruel to you because that's how you interpret it. But you rightfully point out that the way of nature is for living organisms to have their chance at life, to make decisions and live with the consequences of those decisions.

What you have noticed is that the way things are is weird and sometimes cruel. Yes, a balance is maintained in nature, and this is good, but it requires death and so on.

Since you have posted it in R&S you may be interested in a religious view of this.

In the biblical world view, this weird but normal (in the sense of happening all the time around us) state of affairs is actually abnormal (because it is a malfunction). When God created the world, he created it good. There was no death of animals, God gave them only plants for food. The plants themselves were also better for food then.

When Adam as the representative of the planet, decided to follow Satan instead of God, his sin affected the whole world. A change came upon nature. Death and disease entered the world. Thorns and thistles appeared. Death became a necessity, predators had to eat prey, man had to kill to get skins for clothing, meat, and for religious sacrifices. The way things are now is not the way they were meant to be at the beginning.

God's plan is to restore the world to an edenic state of perfection, thus the prophet Isaiah has utopian visions of the new heavens and the new earth on which:

"The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah11:6-9, cf. 65:17,25).

And the writer of Romans looks forward to the time when creation will be liberated from its bondage to decay:

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies" (Romans 8:18-23).

How an ecosystem can function without the death of animals or even of people, we cannot imagine. It must be a case of life, but not as we know it. However, according to the bible, that system, which we in our current "normal" circumstances cannot imagine, is actually what is normal, and what we have now is abnormal.

What you see in the physical plane is also true in the area of behaviour and ethics. God is intrinsically altruistic, or as the Bible says, "God is love". And altruism is the ideal that is taught in the Bible. Yet human nature as we know it, is basically selfish. Even Atheists acknowledge this fact. In the introduction to The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins says:

"My own feeling is that a human society based simply on the gene's law of universal ruthless selfishness would be a very nasty society in which to live. But unfortunately, however much we may deplore something, it does not stop it being true. This book is mainly intended to be interesting, but if you would extract a moral from it, read it as a warning. Be warned that if you wish, as I do, to build a society in which individuals cooperate generously and unselfishly towards a common good, you can expect little help from biological nature. Let us try to teach generosity and altruism, because we are born selfish" (Richard Dawkins, The Selfish Gene, 1976).

The best that Dawkins can come up with to "rebel against the tyranny of our selfish genes" however, is a game theory strategy called tit for tat, in which you start off by treating others nice, but always do to them what they last did to you. It is a strategy for channelling selfishness in a selfish society, to mitigate its effects, but it still has selfishness at its core. He gives the example of vampire bats, which share food with their friends who also share food with them on days when they do not get anything, but do not share food with bats who cheat by not reciprocating.

On the other hand, the bible teaches that, just like disease and death are not the way things were meant to be, so too selfishness, which is part of the same problem and legacy of the fall. Those who want to be citizens of the kingdom of God are taught to live according to the ways of heaven, rather than the ways of this sinful and imperfect earth.

Dawkins defines selfishness and altruism in these behavioural terms, "An entity, such as a baboon, is said to be altruistic if it behaves in such a way as to increase another such entity's welfare at the expense of its own. Selfish behaviour has exactly the opposite effect".

And bearing in mind his promotion of "tit for tat" as a kind of Atheist rule for behaviour, an ethic if you will, note what Jesus teaches:

"You have heard that it was said,`Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. "You have heard that it was said,`Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matthew 5:38-48).

"But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful" (Luke 6:27-36).

In the new heavens and the new earth, in paradise restored, there will be no death or suffering, and no selfishness. Only the altruistic will be there, and the universe will at last be restored to peace and harmony, as it was meant to be. What it will be like we who know only the present world of selfishness and death, cannot imagine.

"We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him—
but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God" (1 Corinthians 2:6-10).
