This sounds like urticaria, or hives; my daughter experienced an outbreak a year ago and, like your daughter, she initially experienced itching on her back, followed by patchy rashes on her limbs that gradually spread everywhere (in patches), except her face. There was no known reason why it started, although she had been working very hard, but I regret that it stayed for quite some time. The doctor prescribed all sorts of creams and something to put in the bath water, and she eventually had to have a course of oral steroids too, all of which only gave temporary relief. I'm pleased to say that it suddenly decided to fade away almost as rapidly as it had started. IF this is what your daughter has, I hope she doesn't have to suffer with it for too long, as it makes life miserable; do be prepared for the possibility of it getting worse before it gets better though. She should see a doctor as soon as possible for definite diagnosis and to be prescribed something to at least relieve the constant irritation. Good luck for a quick recovery and with the exams! (By the way, it's almost never caused by a specific allergic cause, such as new soaps and detergents). If you'd like more info on this, the website below is worth a visit.
ADD: Just realised, although you said her back had been itchy, you didn't say that her arms itched! If they don't, then it's not hives!

My 5 month old daughter has the same problem. She has a rash on her cheeks from her saliva because she's teething and she sometimes has a rash on her forehead or on her legs and arms. Her pediatrician suggested to use Hydro-cortisone ointment and it works. But the rash will come back. You just have to reapply as needed.

It really could be anything to heat rash to stres... so the best advise i could give is to get it checked out at the doctor so you know for sure what it is - so you and your daughter have 1 less thing to worry about. Good luck!

If this has lasted a couple of days, I'd take her to the doctor. It could be anything from stress to an allergic reaction to something she's eaten or come into contact with.

I had that once...Dr said it was probably down to the washing powder or cosmetics I'd used. It's probably stress with your daughter. Get her some anti histamines(you can get the none drowsy one such as cetrazine) And some eurax, you can get it in boots. They will both stop the itching x

It sounds like contact eczema. Has she bought a new shirt or have you changed your laundry soap? Something that has scraped up against her has probably done it. I have 5 children and been to the dr. many times for eczema. Try hydrocortizone topical and see if it helps.

Dont freak out but it sounds like scabies (skin mites/lice). This is contagious to take her to the doctor. But anyone she hangs with couldve had it and any contact she couldve caught it. It will spread too.
