I'm moving into my new place next week and I'll be searching for a bedroom set. Is there anything I should know about whats good and what isn't? I want quality, but I don't want to spend a fortune. I'm a 20 year old college student. I like the beds that sit closer to the ground, but I'm not sure about the quality on those. Hopefully you guys/gals can help me out.

My advice for anyone wanting to buy new furniture but are on a budget: Go shopping at your local furniture store and take notes on the make & model of the furniture that you like. You can then go to the internet & find the exact same furniture(many times with free delivery) at a huge discount. Here is a site that has links to many stores that sell the beds that sit close to the ground.

Well if it's just for college, then try Ikea cuz they look great and wear down by year 4. But if you're looking for long-term durability, West Elm. Urban Outfitters too.

A lot of college kids throw out gems of belongings in dumpsters end of every semester cuz they dont' wanna take it back with them, ESPECIALLY foreign students. Ask they frats and sororities too. They'd all rather sell at $15.00 than have to haul it down the stairs and all the way round back towards the dumpster. My Taiwanese roommate sold me a $60.00 Ikea shelves for $15.00 and totally worth it.

You can find similar style pieces at a thrift / flea market that don't necessarily match. By painting them the same color, you can unify them. Look for more vintage or antique pieces, as the building quality (composition, joints) were much higher *way back when* than current standards for mass production. I recommend going with a dark color for the paint, as this will hide many imperfections (rich brown, even black).

If you have access to an Ikea store, this is your best bet and since they are a contemporary store, you will find the type of bed styles you like. Their price is right and the quality good. If you are not near a store, check them out online.

My advice is, spend as much money as you can on one piece, then buy the rest at the salvation army. Plus some bug spray.

The piece that you buy will last a life time and you can add to that as you grow. Bed or couch first. Get a reclining couch.

God Bless.
