Bichon Frise are purebred dogs. They are not a combination of other breeds. It is a very old breed thought to originate in the Canary Islands but was not brought to the USA til the 1950s. It has been recognized by the AKC since the early 1970s. Most of the early dogs here came from Belgium, France and maybe Germany.

Bichon Frise + Bichon Frise = Bichon Frise
They are their own breed. Recognized in both the AKC and UKC, and among other groups as well.

I have a toy poodle and my best friend has a bichon. They're both so cute, but I like poodles better. They're smarter and easier to train, and they come in so many different colors. I do like that bichons always seem to be smiling, though. That's pretty cute!

they are purebred, however they are closely related to the maltese. they are in the "bichon family" which consists of: the bichon frise, maltese, havanese and bolognese. they have nothing to do with poodles

it is product of years and years of breeding... do NOT assume if you breed two dogs together you will get a bichon
