certain groups (such as scientologists) strongly insist this. But in scientology they tell people you have to go through some type of deprogramming or "auditing" that of course you have to pay them for to cure your mental and physical problems. So instead of paying for a professional psychologist you can pay a scientologist to treat you, and give money to the church of scientology. Also since some psychologist have advocated against using scientologies techniques the scientology church has reacted in a paranoid reactionary fashion to turn psychology into the enemy.
The scientologists have put out alot of internet clips and films advocating their stance that psychology is a conspiracy to keep people sick so people keep paying for treatment. So some people have bought into the anti-psychiatry propoganda the scientologists have spread.

i believe it was started by an english doctor, who did not believe in the process were people with mental disorders were treated. through time, and the internet, it has picked up steam. because mental illness can be genetic, and our populations is growing, there is a lot more mentall illness, and mentall illness awareness. there are a lot of people who have had bad psychiatric experiences, perhaps are denying their illness, and then go to the internet, and find out that their is a movement out there that is anti psychiatry, and believe they have found the answer from this type of antipsychiatry information . i have seen most of these sites, and a lot of it, is innacurate, misleading and can be dangerous to some people that truly need help. it sometimes feeds mass paranoia, hysteria, to an sometimes unsespecting and vulnerable population. psychiatry is not an exact science, and does not allways work for some people, but i have worked with a mentally ill population for 30 years, in a hospital and community setting, and have seen the outcome of psychiatric intervention, and for the most part, psychiatry does more good than bad. i would like to know what the opposers of psychiatry do to help the mentally ill. were are there hospitals, and how do they help the mentally ill. what are their answers. the funny thing is if governments are controlling people minds thru medications and psychiatry , then why do all these people go to a hospital for help, and why do all these people take their medications, because unless it is court ordered, anyone can refuse medication.

I think people are suspicous about psychiatry because it is not as exact as other forms of medicine. Psychiatry does have a history of a lot of bad ideas that don't work; but it has improved greatly over the years.
I also think that a lot people seem to believe the brain or the mind are not subject to malfunction in the same way as other organs and systems of the body. Many people have a hard time understanding this.
Another issue is that mental illness can be very subjective, and sometimes it's difficult to tell if someone is really having symptoms or if he or she is faking symptoms. Sometimes even trained professionals have a hard time telling the difference. Similarly, it's not unusual for somebody to go to a psychiatrist and get a diagnosis, go to another psychiatrist and get a completely different diagnosis.
Some people make an issue about psychiatrists making a lot of money and getting "perks" from prescribing certain medications. This is often true, but other kinds of doctors get the same kind of "perks."
Another issue is that some of the complaints come from mentally ill people themselves. Concepts like an "evil" profession and "government controlling our minds" actually sound a lot like delusional themes common in severe mental illness such as schizophrenia.
I have been treated for depression and anxiety for more than twenty years and I can say for certain that no one is controlling me.

Freud had some very strange ideas about the realms of metaphysical development of the Psyche, his theories are the basis for type of analysis called psychoanalysis, which is more of a mysticism than a science based on emperical data. those who have a different view in the same field would use any means of force to assure reward and acclaim through torture and even death of patients who fall easily victim to the easy sezuire laws that have rewritten moral ideals and changed possibly forever the meaning of free will and justice, giving rise to many who question the validity of something that requires so much force and secrecy. Even the most confidant cannot decline a cring in the direction of absolute rights when these are determined by the societies that embrace them. There are no absolutes in the rhealms of belief or thought, both highly critiqed fields of philosophy. Can a person for instance be declared sane if they stated that a god had spoken to them? Or was told by some mental influence other than thier own to act on a given circumstance? Goverments have expendable resources namely you, and don't hesitate to use new unproven theories to gain at least in perception, control! Fear is the tool most often employed and humans can resist a huge amount pain, which can be very allarming to those who view thier responsibility while eartbound to exact a measure of satisfaction for the pet mindstorms, at this point it has become a society that fears nothing because it can and does literaly deal in the manufacuring of delusions that keep the masses from going primal on them. Of course as we witness in the world now how these constructions work against the human race and favor only a few i'm sure you will be able to deduce the fervor of greed and power dripping from the mangled reamains of what used to be a civilizing environment . Thank you for the great question

Anti-psychiatry refers to a movement that challenges the fundamental theories and practices of (mainstream) psychiatry. Criticisms in the movement include: that psychiatry applies medical concepts and tools inappropriately to the mind and society; that it too often treats patients against their will; that it inappropriately dominates and excludes other potential approaches to mental distress/disorder; that its medical and ethical integrity is compromised by financial and professional links with pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies; that it uses a system of categorical diagnosis (e.g., Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) that stigmatizes and is poorly founded scientifically or clinically; and that the psychiatric system is experienced by too many of its patients as demeaning and controlling.
Some mental health professionals and academics profess anti-psychiatry views, including the professionals who publish in the peer-reviewed journal of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology.[1] A proportion of users or ex-users of psychiatric services do as well.[2] Some critics now focus on the predominant biological psychiatry. [3][4][5] Psychiatrists sometimes view anti-psychiatry as a fringe movement with little or no scientific validity[citation needed]. It is, however, difficult to quantify the proportion of the general public or professionals involved, or the overall range of views held. Despite its name, some parts of the movement promote a form of psychiatry which is merely contrary to current mainstream theories and methods. Some so-called "anti-psychiatrists" are keen to dissociate themselves from the term and the pejorative associations it has attracted

To think that 'the new world order' is NOT using mind-control through psychiatry is to be neive in the extreme.
Every day we are bombarded by images on our TV and PC screens that implant 'mind-bombs' into our subconscious minds.
Why is it that if you're not too bright, and your exam passes are below par, the 'safest option' to get into university is to apply for a 'psychiatry, social psychology or psychology' course?
It's because these people who are among the easiest to impose certain 'ideals' upon, are excellent propogators of those 'ideals' later on in life as they 'help' and 'assess' the mentally impaired, and troubled citizens who are being 'confused' by the conflicting bombardment of 'subliminal' messaging. Perpetrated by the media moguls who are VERY high up the 'echelon' of the new world order.
In the UK, children are being 'taken' into nurseries at younger and younger ages so that they are more easily 'influenced' by the curriculem set out by our 'Super-Nanny-State' government.
It's their long-term aim to impose their doctrine into the minds of ALL of our children. (The younger the better).
They are achieving this by making 'credit' so easily available, 'forcing' people, (Students as well) into unmanageable debt. This requires 'Mothers' to go out to work full time or go 'bust', losing house & home.
The end result? Nursery places swelling up everywhere, allowing these sleazy 'street-bandit' politicians to inflict their
'ideals' on the most innocent and precious members of society. (Our children).
Realise this. The UK government are seriously considering making 'politics' a compulsory subject in years 10 & 11,
just before they leave school.
The reason? So that school leavers will have a 'better idea' which party they should vote for when they turn 18.
But WORSE than that. They're even thinking about LOWERING the voting age so that they 'capture' these voters at exactly the same time most of them leave and move on into jobs or university.
Now please tell me the government doesn't have an interest in the workings of psychiatrists and psychologists?
There is a link below to an online book that delves deeper into this subject.

Good luck, Pete.
