Please try the following:
When you are ready to go to bed, lie down in a dark room, arms by your side in a relaxed manner, tense your entire body for a few seconds and instantly release, repeat a few times, then:
Inhale 2 counts, hold 4 counts, exhale 4 counts, hold 4 counts - this is one cycle. Repeat at lest 10 cycles. the counts can be as short or as long as you are comfy with. After a while you will feel very calm and relaxed. If you pray, say a brief prayer, or imaging yourself in a happy situation, and drift off. Please dont expect instant miracles, try it diligently for atleast 5 days. Secondly, use your very active brain to think productive thoughts consciously by focussing on these. It could be anything like ideas to redecorate, fashion, cooking, making something, your last vacation, your ideal vacation, anything at all. Best wishes.

I never go to sleep till i'm so exhausted that i just pass out, cuz my mind goes effin' bazerkers and so, I don't even worry about it any more, I stay up and do all kinds of weird ****, and when my mind and my body start to come down from whatever the hell is wrong with me, I crash. I hate laying in bed with my mind racing, so i'll get up and lift weights, or beat off, or come on the computer and listen to music and just trip on stuff. One thing is that, I have bad dreams. Not nightmares, but just weird stuff that makes me feel like hell, and if I stay up till the point of total collapse, I'll usually sleep so deep, that I don't remember my dreams. I know i'm not really giving you any good advice, but I just thought I'd share my trip with you, to let you know that you are not alone right now. There's two types of people in the world, the night people, and the day people. and it's the night people's job to get the day people's money. Think about that. It's true.

Hi I suffer from the same thing. I find that my body is really tired but my mind won't switch off. I do a few things that help. Firstly I cleared everything out of my room. I got rid of all pictures and clutter, all that is left is my tv, bed, wardrobe and bedside table. Less distractions. I also have a notebook. I write down all of what is going on in my head and sometimes it helps. If all else fails, I read a book or watch a dvd until I fall asleep.
The main cause of not being able to sleep is stress - maybe you need to sit down and think about what's going on in your life. Mine turned out to be planning my wedding. I know it sounds extreme but I called the wedding off and I have never been happier. I love my fiance very much, but we have been together for 9 years so it's not like we aren't commited or anything.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.

I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.

I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)

Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

I'm having that problem right now, which is why I'm up at 4 am. But I have a reason that I'm stressing out.

I must be an alien, I disregard all of MSJERGE's suggestions : I am 62yo, I drink coffee all the time, I smoke, fall asleep day or night not worrying about outside light, eat when I am hungry and go to bed when I feel sleepy. In my view, the real problem is the state of mind a person is in. Learn to know yourself and respect your limits; you will then have a better control over your life. All of this applies of course if nothing physical or mental hails you ( Good Luck )

There is nothing abnormal in these things and most people experience it some time or other. To avoid thinking, people count sheep i.e. just count numbers. Still you can't totally avoid random thoughts which will intrude your counting. But after some time it will stabilise and you will sleep better. Another method is to think of only good and beautiful experience.
