Most modern handguns have internal safety devices that will prevent an accidental discharge if the gun is dropped, so I guess that could include pistol whipping.
There is an old story about Wyatt Earp and the Buntline Special he had. The Buntline 45 Long Colt had a 9 1/2 inch barrel. After getting the gun as a gift from Ned Buntline, Earp was reported to often use the gun as a club to "calm down" rowdy cowboys.
So, if you are looking for gun for pistol whipping, I guess I would suggest a Colt Peacemaker, with a 9 1/2 barrel.

All handguns are good for pistol-whipping somebody. Just make sure the safety is on or there's no ammo in the pistol. Have fun pistol-whipping people.

The only real thing I know about guns is that they are dangerous and deadly if not used with respect. If the "safety" is off, anything can happen ... who or what do you plan on pistol whipping for goodness sake??!!

It depends on the gun but if there is a live round in the chamber and the safety catch is off, there is a definite possibilty it will discharge. Avoid violence unless there is no other way out. Unnecessary use of excessive force is an offence for a Police officer.

Use a phonebook, because it doesn't leave bruises. A pistol is only going to go off because the trigger is pulled.
