Be confident and make sure that you get your basics right i.e the seat position, mirrior view etc...Most people flunk the test just because of poor basics. Try it a few times today.

One more tip, when you sit in your seat try aligning the steering side to the adjacent vehicle the other side would automatically aligns itself

The slower you travel the better would be the control and you will have more time for the alignment.

Make sure that you think yourself as an expert and believe that you can park the vehicle better.

Above all drive with a smile.
Wish you all the best and share ur experiences.

Well, when I took my test we parallel parked between large cones. The trick is don't hit the cones and stay relaxed. I thought that was where I would have problems but it's really easy. That or get a Smart Car. I live in Germany right now and in Frankfurt they just got to back in because the car is so short it fits without going out into the road. And if he looks at you funny just say no man I am just kidding, laugh it off and then parallel park. Just tell the guy you wanted to make his day with you remember-able.

watch for your speed limit, look over ur shoulder and behind actually when changing lanes to the left or right, stop before the stop sign, dont talk too much to the license guy/girl who's testing u, u'll have 3 tries in the parallel parking anyway but it will give the guy a hint if ur a good driver or not. the written test on the computer is a piece of cake got 2 mistakes only.

Just relax. Hope you're using a small car..... I took my first test in my mom's '73 Caprice 9 passenger Estate Wagon. Bad mistake........ I did fine except I just touched one of the cones parallel parking. I came back the next month in a borrowed Dodge Dart. MUCH easier.......
Just remember to take a deep breath and don't rush anything. The more relaxed you are the better you'll do. They don't count off for taking a few extra seconds to do something.

Good Luck!

Don't make small talk with the agent. They will not make you do anything illegal, so listen to what they say, and do it. Very likely, parallel parking will be part of your drive, try to relax and do as best you can, you can't really do anything else, right? Make sure you look over your shoulder when changing lanes, and don't cut corners. Good luck!

Stay calm, stay confident and go in and nail it. I don't know about New York but where I live they do not expect perfection on parallel parking.
