PS:::Dear Bullfrog,
I have to tell you 'Well Done'. You see my son said "if everyone knows thier bible then i shouldn't need to tell them where to look". It is of course in the New Testament, The Gospel According to St.Mark, Chapter 6 Verse 3. I don't attend church now though my sons do, and seemingly they were discussing this area a few weeks ago.
Nobody need feel sorry for my sons by the way. They are two of the best cared for and looked after kids in the town. And well adjusted individuals who are happier than most kids in this area.
He does say 'Thank You' for all answers.

Mary had no other children however Joseph had other children. Although Jesus was not Joseph's genetic son from a social prospective he was and James was his half brother and was older being Josephs son from a previous marrage. James was the only one of Joseph's children that we know of that accepted Jesus.

I have to admit, I don't know the Bible nearly as well as I should, but I personally believe that the 'brothers and sisters' of Jesus mentioned in the bible would be what I would call "half-brothers/sisters".. as in they were born of the same Mother (Mary) but unlike Jesus, who was not "fathered" by an earthly man, the others were Joseph's children...
I looked through some passages and didn't find him speaking of an 'older' brother... If you do have a particular passage that mentions the brother being older, I would be interested in reading it too. The passages I found didn't say older or younger, but one can infer that they were younger based on the fact that Jesus was born of a Virgin Mary.. thus the others would have come after him.
I'll admit.. I really can't say one way or the other for sure.. I just am going with my understanding of what I read in the Bible. I personally have no issue with the idea that Jesus had siblings. That would not change my views on him at all. I still believe in the idea that he was born of a virgin, etc..
All in all.. There really isn't a person in the world today that can entirely answer every question about the bible. The people that wrote it are long gone, and as with any old, historical books that have been translated, etc etc.. some things are going to be left up to people to interpret the way they see fit.

Jesus didn't have an older brother. He did have younger half-brothers and sisters though, and they are mentioned in the Bible.
What made you think Jesus had an older brother?
Edit: Mark 6:3 doesn't say James was older than Jesus, and nowhere in the Bible does it teach that Joseph was married to someone else before Mary. What church do your children attend? I believe you are a witch though, according to some of your answers? Really curious how you came to your conclusions about Joseph and James?

This may sound like a weird mis-interpretation of a priesthood office known as an "Elder". Because elder and older are different by one letter, this is what may have triggered the confusion, a simple mis-pronunciation.
So the elder bretheren Jesus Christ may have been talking about may be certain bretheren holding a priesthood office known as "Elder".
Hopefully this answer makes sense, because I tried to imagine in different ways a 12 year old could have heard of this and mis-hearing someone was a possibility that leaped into my head the strongest. This explanation also makes sense to me in the fact that it does not require deep doctrinal analysis, but rather looking at church vocabulary and seeing any words that sound the same.
Thanks for letting me ramble and I hope you and your son do well with this.
Sincerely,
Alvin R.

Jesus is the only Begotten of the Father, however this does not mean that Jesus was the only son of Mary and Joseph. The Apostle James is often referred to as the brother of the Lord, but he was not his older brother. James was likely the Apostle who wrote the Epistle of James.

Jesus does not have an older Brother. Jesus was God's First Born Son and all who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior become adopted into the Family of God.

Non-believers make up "stuff" they claim is in the bible.
Read and study the bible to know what it says.
Jesus had no older brother (nowhere in the bible does it imply Jesus had an older brother).

Jesus is Gods only BEGOTTEN son. (the only son who was born from a human woman.) Jesus on the other hand had more siblings both half brothers and half sister threw Mary's husband Joseph.

Jesus is God's only Son, but Mary and Joseph had other children, which would be Jesus "brothers" so to speak, the other children they had were not born of God.

Jesus doesn't have a "brother" - what is the scripture reference?
God is one, unique and holy- as the Gospel of John says.. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This is the mystery of the Trinity- something our finite minds can never comprehend.
Post Note... Mary did not have any other children. Thats why she's called the Virgin!
