I've driven a compact car for 3 years now and I am ready to move up to a full size sedan, however I have a limit to what I can spend. I was given the option to get a 2006 Hyundai Sonata at an extremely reasonable price. I've heard both good & bad things abt Hyundai, and I am not sure if this would be a smart buy. However it is a beautiful car. Please let me know of your views of this car. Thanks!

This an unorthodox piece of advice, but you can cut to the quick by asking Tow Truck Drivers (Company) what they think of the brand. They will not try to sell you anything and they tow everything. I have found them to have an informed opinion on what is good and what is "junk". If they would buy it, then you can better trust that you are making a good decision. If they would stay away from it, find out why. This could be the useful for any brand you consider to purchase, not just Hyundai.

2006 sonatas are awesome. I personally drive one. it has 10k miles on it right now, and I still enojy driving it. It's such a good deal to drive sonata for what it costs. If you get a sonata, you won't regret it. It gets great reviews and all the criticism about hyundai is all for early 90s. They have improved so much just past few years. The car is very reliable. The new design of 2006 sonatas looks better than ever. I just read an article about this somewhere. In singapore, the taxi companies changed their cars from mercedes to hyundai. They decided that hyundai's are more reliable and affordable. I just thought I let you know.

The Hyundai Sonata is a good car. But 2006 was the first year of production for that model (North American-market) at a new factory with new workers. Historically, first-year models are more likely to have problems than later years, as the cars hadn't been driven/tested in real world conditions for an extensive time yet). So there is a small risk with the 2006. Personally, I buy second or third year models.

You can't go wrong with the sonata, lots of people would say get a Toyota or Honda. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either, but i was say go with the Sonata, for the price and the warranty, i have one for more than 6 years and no real problems, i would strongly recommend a Hyundai. Just ti give you an example my mom got a Toyota, brand new the same year i did, my sis got a Mazda, and they both have had more problem with their car than i have, while am getting closer to 100000 miles i have not had one real problem with my Hyundai. Look and the reports on how many time an avg car company cars being turned in to the shop due to mechanical problems and i think Hyundai is second only to lexis, on most reliable car company. Go test drive.

I owned a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe and having loved that vehicle so much I traded it in for a 2007. Bad choice! The new one is not the same quality vehicle, I think that Hyundai has hired a bunch of people from the American motor industry who have been laid off.

Try this out and see if you like it. Test drive the car down the road at about 45mph or higher. Lower the rear windows as if you need some fresh air for the kids (dogs) in the back seat. The air pressure will just about pop your eardrums. Even if you crack the other windows it won't help. So just plan on running the air conditioner full time and see where the gas mileage goes! And if you have any problems with the car and you think that Hyundai will stand behind it, guess again you'll need to have a really good dealer. The case manager (at Hyundai's Customer Care Center) never did contact me and when I complained to the supervisor "Quinn" he was very rude and told me to take up my problems with the dealership. Gee why didn't I think of that? I'm dumping my Hyundai, if your smart---Run!

It all depends on how u maintain your car. I had KIA spectra 2002 , everyone says only Honda- Toyota are reliable, but i don't have any problem with KIA yet. Same way Hyundai Sonata is one of the success model from Hyundai. It would be great on gas if u change oil every 3000 miles and maintain well. I will say if u get a nice deal on Hyundai u should go for it.

I have a 2002 and a 2006 Sonata. I like the 2002 much better because it has a much better layout even though it is smaller. I haven't had problems with either one and the only problem I did have was fixed under warranty. Just rember if you buy a used Hyundai, you don't get the same warranty as if you bought one new.

In Maryland the Sonata is very popular as are Hyundai's in general. I see as many Sonata's on the road as Camry's, Altima's and Accord's. It's a really good car for the money and everyone I've talked to was not only happy with it, but actually surprised at how much nicer the Sonata was then they initially thought. A tax client of mine bought one after his Passat was totaled and actually thought it was better then his VW, if you ever drove a Passat you'd know that was a big compliment. You may also want to check out the Mazda 6, its a very nice mid-size sedan too.
