every body's different when it comes to healing. I've had my lip ring in for 2 years or so, and every time I want to put it in/out, I have to stretch it if it's been longer than a couple hours. You've just got to test it out, and be ready to (possibly painfully) stretch it back open at a shop or something. Retainers for lips suck, by the way, don't deal with them. I accidentally bit mine while chewing gum and broke it in half. I've bit my lip ring, and this is much smaller. Hmmm.....odd rant anyways.

facial holes are meant to close up fast, especially mouth ones because its a crucial area so sores and such there need to go away fast in your body's opinion. my tongue piercing started closing up in under 45 minutes and i had to repierce it myself with a blunt barbell...turned my stomach over i felt so sick..i learned my lesson only to take it out when im changing it. so if you're taking it out just cuz...probably not the best idea because it will heal up rather quickly. i haven't had earrings in in over 6 months and the holes are still there no problem. like i said, all depends on where on your body it is.

for the first year you have it, you won't be able to take out for more than a day at most without it closing up
