My husband was injured during BCT (Fracture both heels and knee caps) and was supposed to go on CON leave. However he was sent to MCU where he is not resting or healing. All that is happening he is getting depressed. They tell him CON leave is a possibility but not right now. Is there anything I can do to help speed this along? Anyone I can talk to? They aren't telling him anything which is adding to his frustration.

Giving useless advice like tough it out helps me none. If you can't help please don't respond. It just frustrates the situation and is exceedlingly rude. (P.S. We have been toughing it out for three weeks now)

The doctor recommended he go on thirty day con leave, but someone (not sure who, sorrry) wouldn't sign it for my husband. When he asked them he was told it just wasn't possible at this time maybe soon.

Honey, Con leave is never a definite. When I was going through all that, I was promised Con leave and instead got medically discharged. The decision has to go through a TON of people, and there are alot of factors that go into it. and really, recruits/trainees are bottom of the barrell. It'll cost the military money for something that they dont know if it will do them any good.
And not resting/healing and getting depressed are normal in Medhold (trust me) it'll kill his morale, and they arent going to tell him anything. There is NOTHING that you can do from here. Best I can say is have him keep hounding his first shirt to find out the status of his case. (make sure he goes through the chain of command) They arent going to like it, they're going to be a**holes to him, but its the only way anything will get done.
Also, if he wants to get out of his military commitment, and it is a valid claim, he could request a Med Board. He'll be stuck there for a while (they wont even consider a med board for i think 5 months) however, it will enable him to come home with full VA benefits. but, he'll never be able to enlist in any branch again.

You don't supply a lot of information concerning this, but based on the information provided, I'm going to give it a shot.

One, convelescent leave is normally only given after an operation, or when the service member has spent time inteh hospital. Right now, your husband has had neither of these done; therefore, con leave is not authorized. If he has to have an operation on the fractures then he will be qualified for con leave.

The fractures were apparently not enough to send him home (out of the military). The doctors at the MCT have made the determination that the fractures (probably stress fractures) are not enough to warrent the leave. I agree that stress fractures are painful, but they don't warrant con leave. He has been placed on limited duty, is not allowed to wear boots, and can only walk a certain amount per day.

Good luck

unfortunately there is NOTHING you can do at your end, it all has to be done at the command/medical.

They will only give him convalescent leave if they deem it to be a slavagable injury, but will take more than six months to heal. otherwise, they willkeep him there.

he should, however, be under a doctor's care, which willlimit exactly what kind of activity he can do while he is in Holding.

Convalescent Leave is time off to heal. It is not charged as leave so he would keep his vacation days.

It normally requires his commanders approval. They may not be approving it because he is still in Basic Training, it could be the unit policy or something.

If you want help and actually for people to start listening to you...i.e. his Chain of Command, write a letter to your Senator from your state. That is one way to get their attention to help them to do what is the best for your husband.

They are violating Dr. Orders by making him go to MCU.

You can try going to his First Sgt about it and see if there is anything they can do or have him talk to the doctor about it.
